My orientation to therapy is primarily solution-focused and cognitive-behavioral, but I also frequently use relational-cultural, self-compassion, and adult development perspectives in my practice.
Entering into a therapeutic relationship is a courageous decision and a first step towards healing. I strive to create a non-judgmental atmosphere of empathy and compassion that facilitates the long-term growth my clients seek. My background includes over 20 years of experience in the social work field, including past work as a mental health clinician, educator, and child welfare specialist. I currently provide therapy to adults, adolescents, and couples in my practice. I help clients with concerns including anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship concerns, self-esteem, spirituality, and professional transitions.

I work mostly with people who suffer from anxiety, depression and general stuckness. I use a mix of approaches, with cognitive-behavioral ones as the biggest component of the mix. I have special interest and expertise in helping people on the autistic spectrum; people who are extremely gifted; people who suffer from anxiety (panic attacks, OCD, phobias, shyness); and people who have trouble buckling down, getting organized, and completing the tasks they want and need to do. I like my clients and enjoy my work.

I work in a combination of psychodynamic, cognitive behavioral and mind-body approaches.
I have been a psychotherapist for 30 years. It has been a great privilege for me to work with individuals and couples as they try to solve their life problems. I am committed in establishing a safe, warm and nonjudgmental space for my clients to get in touch with their feelings and seek ways to improve the quality of their lives and relationships. I am also a firm believer that laughter can help our work when appropriate.

I use CBT, DBT, and Solution Focused work, using mindfulness, breathing techniques, visualization, and goal setting to help clients reach their short and long-term goals.
My ideal client is someone who comes to therapy in a time of need. They might be experiencing anxiety due to life changes and transitions or they might be experiencing symptoms of anxiety for the first time and be concerne as to where the anxiety came from. The client might be processing loss or grief from a loved one or past friendships and or relationships. My ideal client will have needs such as needing to identify coping skills to get through life stressors, assistance with reaching goals. As a therapist I would be able to provide the client with a objective perspective to bounce their ideas and situations off of.

My therapeutic toolkit includes a blend of evidence-based psychotherapies, such as dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), radical openness dialectical behavior therapy (RO-DBT), mentalization-based therapy (MBT), cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), and motivational interviewing (MI).
Employed at McLean Hospital since 2003, where I specialize in evidence-based psychotherapies. My approach focuses on empowering clients to leverage their strengths and break free from entrenched patterns. If you’re here, chances are you’re having some difficulty in life, someplace where you’re struggling. Perhaps emotional undercontrol or overcontrol, social isolation, or painful interpersonal relationships. You’ve arrived looking for help to make changes and build your skillset. You want to create something better.

Using a combination of cognitive behavioral therapy, mind-body techniques, and interpersonal boundary setting, I’ll help you find long-lasting relief so you can actively engage in your life again.
Things weren’t always this way. There was a time when you could experience good things without waiting for the other shoe to drop. You used to be able to easily complete tasks that these days require all your effort just to start. But somewhere along the way, things changed. Now, everything is a struggle. You spend hours endlessly overanalyzing past conversations and situations, parsing them for mistakes you may have made. You hate the idea of letting anyone down, so you’re determined to be perfect. And when you inevitably fall short of this unattainable ideal, you criticize yourself for being a failure. Things can’t go on this way.

Therapy at its best combines both insight and action. Understanding ourselves can provide a kinder and less judgmental frame of understanding how we got here. But this is not enough. Taking steps, both in life and during therapy to heal and make changes is essential for an effective and satisfying outcome. For these reasons, my approach to therapy combines the depth orientation of insight oriented psychotherapies and mindfulness with the action oriented aspects of cognitive-behavioral, behavioral and internal focusing techniques.
