I identify as a neurodiverse (ND) autistic psychologist. Like many, I discovered at midlife I’m on the “invisible” end of the spectrum. I now specialize in assisting other ND/autistic adults & their allies as they a) explore identity/diagnosis, b) cope with ongoing life adjustments/ND burnout & c) make informed choices about how/when it is safe to “unmask.” I help clients: identify personal life/career-related challenges, build upon strengths, & make constructive changes to create a ‘right-sized’ life. I’m a multicultural-educated ally & offer affirming space for marginalized folx (BIPOC, LGBTQAI+, ENM/polyamory, differently-abled).

Life can make us feel stuck, unsure, down, scared, stressed, and emotionally drained. With all of life's transitions, ups and downs, adjustments, and surprises, it's no wonder that sometimes we all need a boost. Hope for a better tomorrow can be the first step in making change towards a brighter future. Being vulnerable to take that first step can be a difficult one, however one that can bring transformation, clarity, understanding, and validation that can keep us moving forward.

I think it is extremely courageous to admit we need help. I believe one of the most important criteria for successful treatment is to have a trusting, open, "therapeutic rapport" with a client. Without trust and a good connection, the therapeutic process cannot begin. With that in mind, I believe the first step is creating an environment safe from judgement and rich in support. My focus is to enable clients to acquire insight, skills, and motivation for emotional, cognitive, and behavioral transitions.I specialize in older adolescent and adult individual therapy as well as family and couples counseling.

Your relationship used to be fantastic. You and your partner felt connected; had fun together; and could talk about anything. More recently, things haven’t been going as well, and you don’t want them to get worse. You still love each other, but you’re having more disagreements. Perhaps the busyness of life has left you with less quality time together and feeling a little lonely or unappreciated. You want to reconnect, but miscommunication keeps getting in the way. Alternatively, your relationship is doing well, and you’d like a “tune-up” to keep it that way, so it doesn’t go bad like other relationships you see.

Our bodies are made to move. Research shows that our bodies and our minds respond to being in Nature. What better way to heal and regulate our nervous systems than by walking in Nature? Join me in nature-based therapy where we " walk and talk" or "sit and talk" together in Nature. We walk or sit together in the open meadows or wooded trails that are near the rivers and ponds of the Concord/Acton area. Using mindfulness and guided imagery practices while embraced by Nature, I help my clients find wholeness.

It’s common to feel overwhelmed and lost during life transitions, whether those transitions involve beginning or ending a relationship, becoming a parent, starting a new job, losing someone you love, or even adapting to growing older. Sometimes you can get through difficulties by relying on loved ones in your life, and sometimes it can be invaluable to have a compassionate professional to help you navigate those challenges. My goal is to partner with clients to figure out the path they want to take, and then figure out what skills we can work on to help them get there.

I am a psychologist with 25 years of experience working with adults and adolescents. At times, people seek therapy because their needs feel urgent and immediate: They are acutely sad, are dealing with loss, or are confronted with a challenging decision. At other times, the quest for treatment reflects a subtle but persistent experience that something in a person's life is missing or imbalanced. The demands and intricacies of daily life intensify these challenges. I can help you to become clearer about who you are and what you want in the midst of them.

Everyone experiences difficulties in their lives and finds ways to "get through it." Getting through it is only one step in the journey. You want to move past life's hardships. I know that difficulties come in all shapes and sizes, from broken hearts or unexpected losses of people or jobs, to life threatening emergencies or rape. I often see that people who "get through it" or "white knuckle it" are struggling with stress, anxiety, depression, and unsatisfying relationships.

In over twenty-five years of working with adolescents and adults in schools and clinics, I have learned that people seek therapy because they are struggling to manage overwhelming emotions and experiences. Therapy offers the opportunity to explore symptoms like depression and anxiety with another person, so these feelings can be tolerated and understood. As you investigate your patterns of relating, your coping strategies, and your resources, you will develop new perspectives and recognize your own capacities.

LGBTQ+ Therapists

Do LGBTQ-affirmative therapists receive special training?

Yes. Many therapists who practice LGBTQ-affirmative therapy have completed specialized training, either during their degree program or as continuing education, to learn the core principles of affirmative therapy and how to best support their LGBTQ clients; some have received certifications in LGBTQ-affirmative therapy. Prospective clients should inquire as to a clinician’s background and training to ensure a good fit.

Why might I want to see an LGBTQ-affirming or LGBTQ-friendly therapist?

Queer and gender-non-conforming individuals frequently experience bias and marginalization in day-to-day life. Working with a therapist who understands these unique challenges, as well as accepts and affirms their identity, can help LGBTQ clients feel safe and supported during therapy—allowing them to better navigate their relationships, mental health, and anything else that they wish to explore during therapy. It is important to note that many therapists can be effective in their work with LGBTQ+ individuals, even in the absence of specific training or background knowledge. The most important component in therapy is the alliance between therapist and client, and this alliance can exist between individuals with very different backgrounds.

How can I find an LGBTQ-friendly therapist?

You may wish to inquire about a therapist’s expertise with your specific challenges or concerns—depression, for example, or relationship strife—as well as their past experiences treating LGBTQ+ clients. Prospective clients may also ask whether a therapist has obtained additional training and/or certification in LGBTQ-affirmative techniques.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience with LGBTQ issues?

Prospective clients should feel empowered to directly ask therapists whether they have received training or been certified in LGBTQ-affirming therapy; competent therapists will be happy to explain their educational background and preferred approach(es) to help a client find the best match for them. Clients may also wish to ask how a therapist has treated clients with their particular challenges in the past and what they expect treatment to look like.

Are all the therapists listed in the LGBTQ directory themselves members of the LGBTQ community?

While therapists may choose to disclose their sexual orientation or gender identity in their profiles, the LGBTQ directory features not only those who have shared this information but also those who assert specialized training or experience in providing support to queer individuals, couples or families.
