If you or a loved one has problems with substance, I can help. I work with people and families with substance issues- misuse of alcohol, cannabis, stimulants, and other addictive substances. My approach moves at your own pace, without pushing, digging, or agendas. I work with family members and loved ones to provide education and support to reduce feelings of isolation. I specialize in addiction, alcoholism, as well as co-occurring issues underlying addiction such as depression, mood disorders, anxiety, and trauma. What would it be like to be able to look inside yourself and value what you find there? A positive, healthy connection with yourself gives you the confidence to take effective action in the world and helps you to feel worthy of self-care. Maybe, though, like so many people, you've learned to ignore your feelings and to mistrust yourself, and so it has become hard to believe that the answers you need are actually inside of you. Without a strong sense of trust in your own value and perceptions, it's all too easy to become depressed and anxious.

I have worked with individuals, couples and families using a Strength Based, RLT & IFS perspective for the last 25 years.
Is there anything more important then our relationships? Let's work together to create deeper, more real connections with yourself and the people you love. Learning to accept all parts of you and knowing your partner in a way that will build support and safety for you both to grow together. We can get you into a space where you and your family can manage the hard things and evolve from them. Together we can work toward healthier communication, attachements, curiosity and of course laughter. Let's get comfortable being uncomfortable so that you can dig deep to realize and actualize the change you seek.

I have been a licensed psychotherapist for twenty plus years. In the past ten years, I have been certified in Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing, EMDR, and use Comprehensive Resource Model, Internal Family Systems, Energy Medicine, and Emotional Freedom Technique. Integrating these modalities has been life changing for my clients when healing from trauma, depression, and anxiety. We all have experiences in our past that have created coping mechanisms that can now prevent us from having the relationships, success, joy and happiness that we are meant to experience.

I work collaboratively with you to create avenues for healing through talking, mindfulness practice, IFS, and Sensorimotor Psychotherapy.
"Life feels too hard, too disappointing, too scary. I feel like a terrible person." Feelings are normal. We all have them but sometimes we become overwhelmed and get stuck in patterns that repeat unsatisfying results over and over. Whether from trauma, grief, low self esteem, addictive behaviors or attachment disruptions, I can help you shift toward greater satisfaction and ease in your life by listening and working together to focus in on core areas that have become barriers to your well being.

I utilize a reflective and curious approach that incorporates Mindfulness, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, is influenced by Internal Family Systems, and I am trained in EMDR.
The therapeutic process is one that can be rewarding in so many ways. There are many things that cloud our perception of who we are, including anxiety, perfectionism, people pleasing, mood disruptions, relationship challenges, losses, and/or challenges with alcohol, drug use, or other addiction. The experiences of adverse or traumatic events or the impact of a mental health challenge, whether it be your own struggle or that of a loved one, can cause any person to feel lost and alone. There are times in life when we might feel disconnected from who we are as a result of these challenges.

I am a level 1 IFS trained therapist, but am comfortable working with a medley of therapy models.
Big questions my clients often come in with are "who am I now?" And "what does this life event mean for me or those around me." I have worked with many families and individuals that have gone through significant life changes due to death of a loved one or a loss of some kind. The loss could be a job, a sense of self, or a loss of a future that was impacted due to life circumstances. With any type of loss there are many complicated feelings and emotions associated with it. Through therapy, we are able to explore those big questions together.

I am a Certified Internal Family Systems Therapist; I also have considerable experience with Intimacy From the Inside Out (IFIO) couple's therapy and the clinical applications of Polyvagal Theory.
You may be feeling sad, angry, or worried much of the time. You may be ashamed or disappointed with yourself. You may be struggling with your life, with a relationship, work, or school. Maybe someone has hurt you. Maybe you feel stuck or trapped in a situation that is too much for you. Maybe you want to get a handle on how you think, feel, and behave, and make meaningful, substantial changes in your life.

I am CEIP-MA certified, an AAMFT approved supervisor and have training in EMDR, DBT, Solution Focused Therapy and Internal Family Systems (IFS).
Rather than sitting in an office, my sessions are most often outside with the inclusion of horses, mini donkeys, and mini goats. Engaging while outdoors provides opportunity for experiential growth and engaging in healing while using the sights, sounds, and yes scents of nature to help ground and center during session. Sessions often include working on healing from trauma, managing and decreasing a variety of symptoms like, depression, anxiety, frustration tolerance, relationship conflict, and attentional challenges.

Using resources such as mindfulness, sandtray therapy, EMDR and IFS can help bring clarity, a sense of relief and feelings of hope.
It takes courage to ask for help. When we meet, I will listen and try to understand as much as I can about you and your experience with curiosity, compassion and, when appropriate, a sense of humor. Our therapy session will include letting go of beliefs and energy that don’t serve you and nurturing the parts of you that need attention.

I draw from strength-based approaches including IFS (Internal Family Systems) to help individuals, couples, parents & teens, & organizations attain more satisfying results.
Everyone has within themselves the resources they need to feel better, function better, and engage in more rewarding relationships. But it doesn't always feel that way. My work is to help you clear the barriers to engaging with your inner strengths. No matter what you're struggling with, I'll help you focus on ways to know yourself better, honor your needs, communicate more productively, navigate conflicts more successfully, and manage times of transition with greater clarity, perspective, and hope. Learn how to better tolerate and even grow from your most unsettled parts as you develop trust and confidence in your inner wisdom.

Internal Family Systems (IFS) Therapists

What is Internal Family Systems therapy?

Internal Family Systems (IFS) is a type of talk therapy that focuses on sub-personalities, or “families,” within a person, which may be made up of wounded parts and unpleasant emotions like anger and shame. These sub-personalities can come into conflict with each other and with an individual’s core Self, leaving the person feeling detached from positive traits such as the “8 C’s” of confidence, calmness, creativity, clarity, curiosity, courage, compassion, and connectedness. By healing a patient’s wounded parts, a therapist aims to restore balance and bring on positive change.

How does Internal Family Systems therapy work?

An IFS therapist will work with a patient to identify their particular sub-personalities, recognize the emotions powering them, and release them. By doing so, the patient should become more able to address any underlying problems their sub-personalities may have been trying to protect them from. Ultimately, a patient discovers ways to manage internal and external conflicts on their own, through techniques such as relaxation exercises, journaling, and making charts depicting the relationships between their core Self and their distinct parts.

Does Internal Family Systems therapy work?

IFS therapy has been shown to help people address conditions such as depression, anxiety, panic, fears and phobias, trauma, and substance use disorders. Some research has also found that it can help individuals deal with symptoms of physical health conditions like rheumatoid arthritis, such as pain, everyday functioning, depressive feelings, and low self-compassion. There are some conditions for which IFS treatment, specifically discussions of one’s “parts,” may be less appropriate, such as schizophrenia or other states that involve psychosis or paranoia.

How long does Internal Family Systems therapy take?

As with most forms of talk therapy, there is no set duration or end point for IFS therapy. After becoming comfortable with a therapist and the core concepts of IFS, some patients quickly make progress. While experiences vary, most will find that it is a relatively longer-term therapy, involving months and sometimes years of sessions.
