I use evidence based practices such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy ( DBT) along with experiential therapy.
I wonder if you ever feel like you are in a thunderstorm with no shelter in sight? Or your worries are so heavy that they spill into your dreams? To be human is to struggle. Maybe you have been struggling for a long time or maybe just a short while. No matter what storm you are weathering, I am here to walk beside you and help you find shelter. My specialties include the treatment of anxiety, grief/loss and self worth. Difficulties in life are usually more complex than just falling into one category or another; but know that you are seen. Together, we can find a healing approach that works best for you.

I utilize several evidence-based therapies such as CBT, DBT and written exposure therapy.
I am a licensed mental health counselor and have experience working with adults with persistent mental illness for over 9 years. Navigating through life challenges on an ongoing basis can leave us feeling overwhelmed and at times experiencing such emotions feel permanent, with small consistent steps one can manage those challenges and achieve their identified "full life." I take a strength-based approach and meet my clients where they are at. I take a collaborative approach in achieving the client's identified goals.

As a therapist, I'm interested in helping you get curious about all parts of yourself, challenge rigid thinking, and hold more space for nuance. I especially enjoy working with people as they work to: create healthy, reciprocal relationships, overcome perfectionism and people-pleasing patterns, navigate life and career transitions, and cope with emotional distress related to larger systemic challenges, like oppression and capitalism. There are no miracle cures, but I am here to do my best to understand you and to help you clarify what your growth and healing will look like.

I utilize Acceptance and Commitment Therapy(ACT), CBT, and DBT.
My practice has primarily lended itself to the treatment of Eating disorders, and other co-occurring struggles such as OCD, anxiety disorders, mood disorders, personality disorders that are commonly associated with this illness. Currently, I also work in a University setting with both undergrad and grad students, but in the past was the Clinical Director of both an Inpatient Eating Disorder Unit and a Psychiatric Unit. These experiences have provided me with the background of treating adolescents, young adults/adults, and families from all different backgrounds.

Dialectical Behavior (DBT) Therapists

Who is DBT for?

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is designed for people who experience extreme emotional suffering because they lack the skills of emotion regulation and distress tolerance. The basic affliction can underlie a wide range of conditions, from borderline and other personality disorders to PTSD and treatment-resistant anxiety and depression. The therapy is helpful to those whose emotional reactivity is so intense it is disruptive to everyday functioning and leads to frequent crises.

Why do people need DBT?

The ability to regulate emotions is a core psychological skill that enables people to function in life and pay attention to the world outside themselves; it is consistently associated with well-being. DBT is designed to help people learn how to manage and regulate their emotions. Originally developed to treat people with borderline personality disorder whose extreme emotional suffering led to self-harming behavior and suicide attempts, the therapy is now applied to other conditions involving emotion dysregulation, particularly when other treatments have failed.

What happens in DBT?

Individuals meet weekly with their therapist to discuss their experiences relating to moods, behavior, and skills. Using checklists they maintain, they review emotional experiences and positive practices they engage in. The diaries help individuals discern what led up to a specific problem encountered, this is followed by discussion of the consequences of their actions. In addition, individuals may meet in class-like small groups to learn skills such as mindfulness, emotion regulation and distress tolerance.

How long does DBT last?

Because it is intended to establish long-lasting behavioral change among those with persistent problems, DBT is designed to last six months to a year. DBT includes both weekly sessions of individual therapy and weekly skills-training sessions conducted in small groups. Studies of DBT have documented improvement within a year of treatment, particularly in controlling self-harmful behavior; nevertheless, individuals may require therapy for several years.
