Domestic Abuse Therapists in Attleboro, MA
My areas of expertise include a dialectical, evidenced based approach in treating symptoms of depression, anxiety, trauma, abuse, D.
Life is full of transitions, some of our own choosing, others imposed upon us. The challenges involved in life altering experiences can sometimes feel overwhelming and therefore catalysts for common symptoms of anxiety and depression. This is when therapy can be especially helpful. I offer compassionate, client centered services designed to meet the individual where they are at while incorporating a mindful approach toward treatment. While we can't change difficult situations of the past, we can work together to better understand, cope with and resolve current challenges at hand.

It can be really hard to put yourself out there and start seeing a therapist, so I’m glad you’ve taken the first step towards doing that. Because I know therapy can sometimes be uncomfortable for people I think it’s important for us to take some time to get to know each other so you can feel more at ease when we’re meeting. I really want to help you work through whatever is bringing you to therapy, in a way that makes sense to you.

I will guide you towards FEELING better and DOING better in your life–especially in your relationships! My belief and my experience shows me that we have within us deep wells of strengths, and the capacity to heal and move forward in our lives. But it sure helps to have someone in your corner: Together, we will understand your patterns (your internal patterns, and the patterns in your relationships). With my support, with new insights, and perhaps some new skills, you'll be read to make some positive changes: ...real progress, that lasts!

As your psychologist, I strive to provide you with the tools and support to improve your, your child's, or your family's life. Often this means linking early experiences and current functioning to deepen self-understanding, learning new skills, breaking out of hurtful patterns, and developing new modes of thinking, feeling, and relating to others.

Since COVID-19 started, I have decided to fill the gap of professionals who are no longer working face-to-face. Teletherapy is not the same as seeing someone in person. The reason for this, is the bond is made up of both physical and emotional connection. I achieve this through the process of art therapy, where people can bond by working together creatively. While I am not against medication, I use it as a last resort. I believe in many alternative holistic treatments that can be a substitute for medication. I see people as an integral part of a system, rather than seeing people as separate, as in the medical model.

Are you feeling overwhelmed or frustrated? Or do you want to have a more positive relationship with your partner? If your answer to either of these questions is "yes", you may want to consider counseling! I believe that every person can achieve a better life for themselves. I'm not a "keep you in your place" kind of therapist, it's important to me that you feel respected and unjudged. Additonally, I find it vital to take into account the importance of systemic and sociopolitcal challenges that just cannot be ignored when we're talking about barriers to functioning well.

Life can be tough at times. We grapple with complex emotions, relationship challenges, financial constraints, and spiritual hurdles. We all face demands from every direction, including from ourselves. It's easy to feel stuck, like life is passing you by, and it is frustrating knowing you’re not where you want to be. Events such as losing a loved one, a job, or a betrayal can shift the ground you are standing on. We sometimes experience burnout, anxiety, depression, and trauma, which harm our sleep, our eating habits, moods, relationships, & jobs. I would like to work together with you to help you reach your goals.

I feel that everyone has a story and they need to relate that story as to how it has helped or hurt them. I want to hear your story and how that situation has influenced your life. Sometimes looking at your story from a different viewpoint will change your life. My therapeutic approach depends on the problem being addressed.

My practice helps new parents handle feelings of anxiety and disconnection by providing a warm, non-judgmental environment where you'll learn to care for yourself, build your support network, set boundaries, and feel more confident. I also work with the parent/caregiver and child together to promote understanding of temperament, how to better read your child's cues, help children learn about their feelings, and emotion regulation/co-regulation. I use play therapy and emotion coaching strategies with younger children (birth to age 10).

Domestic Abuse Therapists
What are the most effective ways to recover from domestic abuse?
Leaving an abusive relationship requires tremendous courage, so survivors in treatment should recognize that they have already completed the most important step. Still, the trauma of physical or emotional abuse can be difficult to process and overcome. Therapy can help survivors process trauma, grief, and difficult emotions, treat relevant mental health symptoms, and create a new framework for boundaries and relationships in the future. For some, support groups can also be an invaluable outlet for healing.
When should an individual seek help for domestic abuse?
Victims of intimate partner violence should seek help immediately. It can take substantial time, planning, energy, and courage to leave an abusive relationship, but starting the process—by seeking therapy, calling the domestic violence hotline, or simply confiding in a loved one—will help them get there. Those who have left abusive relationships but haven’t sought treatment can also greatly benefit from therapy to process and heal from the experience.
What are the consequences of staying in an abusive relationship?
Remaining in an abusive relationship has serious repercussions. In addition to the ongoing threat of physical danger and emotional abuse, research shows that intimate partner violence is associated with a range of mental health disorders including depression, post-traumatic stress disorder, anxiety, and substance abuse. Therefore it’s important for individuals in an abusive relationship to seek help as soon as possible.
How can you get domestic abuse treatment for someone else?
It can be very complicated to identify and leave an abusive relationship; barriers include the threat of violence, financial instability, and family pressures. Those concerned about a loved one in an abusive relationship should talk to them about the situation, provide them with resources such as the domestic violence hotline, and introduce the idea of seeing a therapist due to their concern for the person’s safety and well-being.
