Since 1993, I developed an expertise that brings together mental health, trauma recovery and domestic abuse.
From over 30 years of experience, I bring a warm and interactive approach to helping you address emotional issue/s that interfere with living the life you'd like to live. These emotional issues could be depression, trauma, anxiety, divorce, grief, abuse, low-self esteem, etc. I draw from a host of treatment models that I believe will best suit your needs including Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy (AEDP). One model is EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) that's particular helpful in facilitating resolution of issues in a shorter amount of time.

My clinical work is based on a rich understanding of different dynamics affecting young people and couples, including victimization through discriminatory stress, microaggressions, violence, bi-cultural, bi-racial identity development conflicts and couples from different cultural and sexual identity backgrounds.
Do you need a change? Trying to get back on track or go beyond where you have been? I am a cross-cultural and bilingual (Spanish-English) therapist who strives to provide specific skills to unique backgrounds and situations. Do you feel misunderstood, devalued or excluded? Do you have enough emotional supports? Are you culturally different, dealing with more than one culture or ethnicity? Do you want to enhance your performance and learn to be more effective in a cross-cultural environment? My aim is to create a welcoming and non-judgmental environment to explore and actively pursue your emotional, personal, and professional growth.

Life is tough, precious, challenging, and full of possibilities. Yet, too often we find ourselves in survival mode just managing the overwhelming moments. Problem is, this pulls us further away from how we want to feel and be in the world. Whether that looks like depression, anxiety, substance use, traumatic reactions, self-harm, family conflict, or something a bit different- I am here to help. In therapy, we can change the way you relate to your suffering, finding relief and more space for the fun stuff. We will work to understand your thoughts, befriend your feelings, and shift behaviors so you can find a calmer state of being.

Do you sometimes feel like no matter what you try, you’re always stuck with the same heavy feelings, the same doubts? Like you’re carrying around memories that you’ve never really talked about, and it’s easier to push them aside than to face them? If you find yourself wondering if things will ever change, or if you’ll ever feel “normal,” you’re not alone. There’s a path forward, and you don’t have to walk it by yourself.

Whether working with a family, individual, and/or couples, I believe in a relational process in which finding a therapist that is a "good fit" as the groundwork for a supportive, transformative process. I believe that every individual has the ability to examine their life's journey and own their story; all while strengthening self compassion and working to navigate who and how to be in relationships. This along with growing to know, understand and accept oneself. Stepping into the therapeutic process is the first movement towards self discovery and growth.

Domestic Abuse Therapists

What are the most effective ways to recover from domestic abuse?

Leaving an abusive relationship requires tremendous courage, so survivors in treatment should recognize that they have already completed the most important step. Still, the trauma of physical or emotional abuse can be difficult to process and overcome. Therapy can help survivors process trauma, grief, and difficult emotions, treat relevant mental health symptoms, and create a new framework for boundaries and relationships in the future. For some, support groups can also be an invaluable outlet for healing.

When should an individual seek help for domestic abuse?

Victims of intimate partner violence should seek help immediately. It can take substantial time, planning, energy, and courage to leave an abusive relationship, but starting the process—by seeking therapy, calling the domestic violence hotline, or simply confiding in a loved one—will help them get there. Those who have left abusive relationships but haven’t sought treatment can also greatly benefit from therapy to process and heal from the experience.

What are the consequences of staying in an abusive relationship?

Remaining in an abusive relationship has serious repercussions. In addition to the ongoing threat of physical danger and emotional abuse, research shows that intimate partner violence is associated with a range of mental health disorders including depression, post-traumatic stress disorder, anxiety, and substance abuse. Therefore it’s important for individuals in an abusive relationship to seek help as soon as possible.

How can you get domestic abuse treatment for someone else?

It can be very complicated to identify and leave an abusive relationship; barriers include the threat of violence, financial instability, and family pressures. Those concerned about a loved one in an abusive relationship should talk to them about the situation, provide them with resources such as the domestic violence hotline, and introduce the idea of seeing a therapist due to their concern for the person’s safety and well-being.
