With training in Marriage and Family Therapy, CBT, ACT, IFS, Narrative, Psychoanalysis, Spirituality, Parenting, Health Psychology, and Neuropsychological assessment, I draw from a broad base of expertise to construct a personalized approach with every patient.
It takes great courage to reach out to a therapist. It is my hope to meet you in your courage and earn your trust as we build a safe, strong, and productive connection together. Therapy is often about restoring and healing connections with oneself and others. To that end, I serve individuals, groups, couples, and families across the life span with a focus on individual and couples therapy. My experience working in outpatient clinics, schools, hospitals, outpatient primary care settings, and with public safety departments, gives me a unique perspective to draw from.

I blend together core concepts and principles from CBT, DBT, ACT.
I am a "generalist" and clinically serve individuals, couples and families across all phases of development (from pre-teens and adolescents through to older adults). Psychotherapy is a process designed to increase general mental health and well-being by clarifying goals and values, strengthening psychological weaknesses, and learning more effective and sophisticated strategies to better manage emotional, social and internal (e.g. thoughts) life. Through a gentle but focused conversational style, I utilize the latest clinical research and theory to construct a collaborative and personally-tailored treatment plan that aims for symptom relief and performance enhancement.

I believe that through radical acceptance and learning to trust ourselves, we can heal from emotional wounds, leading to greater self awareness, self-love and fulfillment.
I specialize in working with individuals facing eating disorders, anxiety, and relationship issues. Through tailored interventions and processing techniques, my clients are able to transform behaviors such as avoidance, compulsion, self-criticism, and low self-worth. As my clients build confidence and motivation, they are able to access the core of their true self, and gain critical insight into their thoughts and behaviors that is hindering growth. As well, build awareness and develop interpersonal skills with others. I have found that providing an empathic environment, while empowering clients to face discomfort leads to success.

I use a variety of evidence-based, person-centered practices, including cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and acceptance and commitment therapy ( ACT).
Therapy should be a life-affirming experience where you can feel heard, valued, and supported as you share your hopes and struggles. I provide psychotherapy to adults living with anxiety, depression, psychosis-spectrum disorders, and those going through any big life change. I especially love helping new parents with the difficulties that can coincide with pregnancy and postpartum. As a former tenure-track professor, I also enjoy working with people experiencing similar high-stress work environments.

I have trained in Clinical Social Work, Mindfulness and Acceptance and Commitment based Therapy so that I can provide the type of safe space and trusting relationship that facilitates positive growth and transformation.
If you have not been feeling like yourself or that your mind has been elsewhere Let’s talk. Everyone needs a judgment free space where they can express themselves freely and discuss struggles and the things that are most important to them. Whether you are dealing with overwhelming feelings of worry, daily stress, a transition in life or intrusive memories from long ago you deserve to have support.

My work is grounded in cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), exposure and response prevention (ERP), and acceptance and commitment therapy ( ACT).
I provide evidence-based treatments for adults with OCD, perinatal OCD, and anxiety disorders. Having OCD makes it hard to be present in your life. You may be having anxious thoughts about contamination, the health of your baby, or something bad happening to someone you care about. You may be having scary, intrusive thoughts that don’t make sense and feel like the opposite of who you are. You find yourself repeating behaviors or reviewing situations in your mind to alleviate anxiety, but the thoughts and anxiety always return.

Acceptance and Commitment (ACT) Therapists

How does acceptance and commitment therapy work?

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy encourages a person to listen to their self-talk. A person’s inner dialog can be indicative of how they treat themselves. ACT also encourages self-compassion; this can lead to a better understanding of negative thought patterns and emotional states. This understanding can then lead the individual to needed behavior change.

What are the goals of acceptance and commitment therapy?

The goal of acceptance and commitment is to expand a person’s psychological flexibility, a trait that encourages an individual to live in the present moment and to accept all their thoughts, feelings, and emotions, even ones that are difficult such as sadness and anxiety. In ACT, this acceptance is congruent with the individual’s values and beliefs.

Does acceptance and commitment therapy work for depression?

Acceptance and commitment therapy is effective for depression because it allows the individual to view their discomfort and suffering differently. Depressive feelings about relationship heartaches, for example, are a part of life. A despondent person learns to let go of their struggles and instead view their painful thoughts and feelings with compassion. This will lead the individual toward positive change.

How long are people typically in acceptance and commitment therapy?

A typical acceptance and commitment therapy session is 50 minutes long with one session per week. Treatment for common problems such as anxiety, depression, or relationship difficulties can last between eight weeks to four months. However, more severe cases may require more than one session a week and/or a longer time frame for treatment.
