I believe therapy can have a great impact on one's life. If one is motivated, one can resolve problems, feel better, and address past hardships. I have over thirty years of experience helping my clients achieve their goals in a supportive and safe environment. I am fluent in both English and Spanish and have resided in both the United States and Latin America. I look forward to working with each and every client, in order that they may reach their happiest self possible.

Ongoing and underlying fatigue? Feeling numb and detached right now? My current caseload consists primarily of working professionals. I am a licensed mental health counselor, board certified art therapist, and have training in CBT. Counseling is a collaborative experience that empowers an individual in a confidential setting to explore their thoughts, feelings, and behavior. There is no better time than now to gain insight, develop skills, and set goals. I often support clients with ongoing anxiety, depressed mood, and significant life changes. If you are paying out of pocket I do offer receipts for insurance reimbursement.

I believe in providing a comfortable and relaxed environment for clients to address issues identified in treatment. Collaborative treatment planning with my client allows for goals and objectives to be identified. There's nothing I enjoy more than helping people move forward in life. "Moving forward" takes on different definitions as we proceed through life, but the bottom line is that everyone gets "stuck" at times. Maybe it's a dead end job, or the boyfriend/girlfriend that hasn't stepped up, or maybe it's more than that. Maybe you don't feel the happiness that you once did and you want it back. Whatever "it" is, it is my privilege as a therapist to help you figure it all out. It is my experience that a person-centered approach (treatment is based on YOUR individual needs and who you are), can lead to life-changing results.

Please connect with me via email. I am experienced in working with individuals, couples, and families. I believe that therapy should be a collaborative process and that is how I approach every potential client. I believe that we know ourselves best and sometimes we just need some assistance with getting back on track. I believe in a judgement free zone and meeting someone where they are at. I also believe that we all have the tools in our tool box, but sometimes we just need assistance learning how to use them.

Therapy is a massive step in your decision to heal. The clients I work with are often hesitant and unsure if psychotherapy is the right path or have felt like they’ve been let down by the therapy process in the past. Deep emotions can be a heavy burden to bear but we can learn how to process our experiences and make space for healing our mind, body and spirit. Integrating healthy coping into daily life and accessing deep transformative healing IS possible.

Female Therapists

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
