In 30 years of private practice, I have learned some basic truths about people: each person is a unique individual, is attempting to do the best they can with their circumstances and abilities, seeks recognition and validation of their worth, desires a sense of belonging and purpose, and has an inner source of empowerment and health that can be accessed. I am an actively engaged, compassionate therapist, addressing the difficulties of adult life: anxiety, relationships, marriage, loneliness, anger, depression, addictions, not fulfilling one's dreams, coping with illness, loss and death, struggles with creativity and spirituality.
Appreciating one's history is important, as well as learning new tools to cope with the present moment. I use an eclectic approach of cognitive-behavioral, psychodynamic, and family systems therapy. I'm a solution-focused therapist, with attention to strategies for coping as well as accessing strengths and abilities.
With 35 years of interest in meditative practices, I have a particular respect for the skill of mindfulness to decrease stress and suffering, in the present moment, as well as to deepen understanding of the nature of mind itself. Being the agent of change throughout life creates more satisfying results.
