Is your stress level through the roof? Do you feel exhausted, but yet you can’t sleep? Overwhelmed with worry or frustration? Are your relationships on edge? Or do you feel "stuck"? It's easy to lose your focus, your joy and your presence when you are inundated with stress and overwhelming emotion. I work with clients wanting to move beyond emotional pain from their past. By doing this, we improve relationships, increase self-esteem, and build resilience.

Have you ever struggled to be your true self? Are there times when you don't feel seen or heard? Do you feel unfulfilled or like something is missing and you’re searching for _____? Perhaps you experience high expectations, doubt, perfectionism, unhealthy thinking patterns, and feel like your best isn’t good enough? So, you find yourself saying you’ll handle it later, it's not that bad, or your concerns will pass– yet the issue never disappears, and you’re left feeling like you're not enough, overwhelmed, out of control, stuck, frustrated, and alone. It may feel difficult to ask for help or you might fear being judged or rejected.

I believe that healing begins with a little guidance and a place where you feel safe to express yourself. I also believe everyone has the answers they seek within themselves and my job is to help you find them. Our relationship is a partnership where you set the goals and we work toward them together. Whether you are dealing with a specific crisis situation or wanting to focus on personal growth, therapy can help and you don't have to go through it alone.

There are many reasons why you might be searching for a therapist. You might find life overwhelming right now and need a place to process through the feelings of chaos. Maybe you are experiencing conflict in a meaningful relationship or in your own marriage. Perhaps you are in a place where you are ready to grow or find deeper connection. Setting aside time during your week to open yourself up to me is something I treat with great respect and confidentiality.

It’s time to do the work! If you are ready to dig deep and work through, I'm here to assist. Being functional (going to work, doing your day to day habits, presenting as if everything is going well, etc) is not the same as genuinely being well. When you are at a place where everything seems fine on the outside, but you don't feel fine on the inside, it's time to figure out why. Together we can begin to better understand your thoughts and feelings, gaining clarity on what fuels your behavior and triggers certain habits. Change is possible and you are capable of achieving it. Dig deeper, get stronger; that's the motto.

I help children and families in many different ways. Some are struggling with a range of psychological and emotional challenges, others are proactively seeking support and guidance. My therapeutic style is open and accepting, and varies slightly depending upon the age of the client. With younger children, my goal is to ensure they feel successful and understood. For parents, I hope to educate and encourage their interactions with their child or children.

Over the past several years, my professional progress focused on helping individuals with depressive symptoms, anxiety related symptoms, poor stress management, life transitions, and more. I also have a multicultural background and understand different languages. Before making Houston my home in 2018, I traveled and lived across the nation, learning from people of diverse cultures. During my long and storied journey over many years in multiple cities, I've cultivated an ability to relate and empathize with people of many various backgrounds.

As an existential behavioral health psychologist, who predominantly works in cancer care and with those facing existential-spiritual (life-transitional) crises, the client most attracted to my services would be someone who is interested in finding meaning & purpose in Life through their struggles. Depression and anxiety are symptoms of a greater bio-psycho-spiritual challenge. By exploring the particular life-transitional stressors (such as facing cancer or another life crisis), that trigger anxiety or sadness, we then delve into patterns of 'stuckness' that help liberate clients to be free to be their true authentic selves.

All of us have a story and history that we carry. One to be honored, valued, and heard. Throughout our lives, however, that has not always been the case and we are impacted by our relationships and environments that bring us to where we are today. We carry the brokenness from different aspects of our lives with us, which is often confusing, heavy, and tiring. Therapy is a special place, but also vulnerable, requiring a great amount of courage. That being said I hope to provide a safe space to explore some of the ways things should not have been how they were and traumas you may have experienced.

With a wealth of experience spanning diverse demographics, I've served as a seasoned counselor, offering guidance to children, adolescents, individuals grappling with substance abuse, LGBTQ community members, those with ADHD, individuals facing depression, and veterans. Over the years, I've been fortunate to glean insights from seasoned professionals, shaping my approach to client care significantly. In my work with children, I integrate art, activities, and games to foster communication and personal development. Though I'll admit, I frequently find myself on the losing side of UNO!

FAQs - About Therapy and Counseling

How can I find a therapist in Dallas?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
