I am a licensed clinical psychologist and I practice cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT). My expertise is in the treatment of anxiety disorders in children and adults, including posttraumatic stress disorder. I value the science of clinical psychology, and my treatment recommendations to you will be focused around those approaches that have demonstrated efficacy in research studies for the problems you are experiencing. We will also work together to carefully monitor your progress in treatment and make adjustments to our plan as needed.
CBT for anxiety generally involves: (a) identifying and changing the unhelpful thoughts and beliefs that perpetuate our anxious feelings and/or (b) using time during therapy or homework assignments to approach, rather than avoid, the things we feel afraid of or make us anxious (this is called "exposure").
Some people are so anxious that they avoid leaving their home or would find it too difficult to come to a doctor's office. In these cases, I provide on-site/in-home visits as needed. I also offer several group-based CBT options (call for current group information).
