I think people come to therapy with a purpose - to realize certain hopes, address pressing difficulties, reduce the obstacles in their way. I view psychotherapy as an active collaboration around that purpose, and seek to create a welcoming and comfortable base of strengthening support. I have twenty years' experience helping people manage anxiety, mood disorders, issues of self-esteem, loss, relationship problems. I use diverse approaches, drawing on: training in psychoanalysis; techniques gained doing couples treatment; skills from extensive work with teens. Additionally, I have expertise treating substance abuse. I have written and presented widely on these subjects, and am on the faculty at NYU.
