I believe therapy is an opportunity for people to explore themselves and their relationships in order to create space for self-acceptance and deeper connections. In our work together, we will explore life’s challenges, celebrate its joys, and process the experiences in between. I practice focusing on clients' strengths, collaborating to create an individualized approach to address each client’s unique needs.

Maybe you feel that there's more to life than what you have attained. Or a nagging feeling that bothers you and haven't been able to shake-off or can't put a finger on. It could be something you consider serious/concerning, but don't free safe discussing. It could even be something concrete like difficulties with your relationships. Or your job is not providing the satisfaction you believe it should. It could be...well it could be a number of other things that prevent you from living the quality of life you want to enjoy.

My specialty is working with Black, brown and multi-ethnic, non-monogamous and QTGNC/questioning folks experiencing depression, anxiety/panic, complex trauma, and relationship or social transitions. In addition, I am experienced serving folks with a range of identities struggling with body image, disordered eating, substance misuse, self-harm, and chronic illness, including chronic pain and social stigma. I work particularly well with folks looking to decolonize their minds, relationships and lives, and generate new values-based, life-affirming constructs for themselves.

I strive to create a space where clients can come and speak without fear and judgment about their greatest challenges and aspirations in a confidential environment. Do you find yourself looking in the mirror and wondering, "how did I get here?" then I might be the right fit as a therapist for you. As a professional practitioner I find that I am extremely effective with people trying to wear multiple hats in life; managing work and family, coping with chronic illness and balancing professional aspirations, trying to reclaim your sexual identity while being an engaged parent or partner.

With a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and a Master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling, I obtained my license to provide counseling in New York State in the summer of 2021. This includes practicing for 5 years under extremely professional and experienced counselors, who had been counseling for over 25 years, giving me a range of knowledge, skills, and hands-on experience. I have now been providing therapeutic services for around 8 years in total. I pride myself on using extreme levels of empathy and compassion when counseling. I attribute much of my success as a counselor to my ability to relate and understand my client's needs.

Have you ever wondered why people in different areas of your life treat you the same way? Have you ever wondered why you are never included in the fun, or always expected to be the one to put the plans together for everyone else? Do you sometimes think that everyone is judging you or do you spend countless hours in your head judging yourself? Do you take pride in your perfectionism and yet procrastinate for hours on end? Do you ever wonder why that is? If you have ever had a thought similar to these or felt anxious or depressed because of situations like these, maybe its time to talk?

Your life looks great on paper and on the surface you are thriving…and yet, underneath it all, there is a sense of dread, life feels dull, and it feels like you’re stuck on autopilot. Do you find yourself thinking over and over again about the same events or memories from your life? Do you find yourself withdrawing from your closest relationships? Are you noticing that you have a short fuse? Many times the unresolved hurt in our past re-emerges in our present. Addressing these recurring patterns and their lingering effects is possible.

Each of us has become who we are by way of our life experiences. Reflecting and offering insight along the way, my hope is to support you as you get to know yourself more deeply and develop tools to enhance your wellbeing. I believe some days we need direct, honest feedback and other days we need a compassionate, tender listener. It is my intention to adapt to your needs as they shift while cultivating a space where you can share without fear of judgement.

Prioritizing mental and emotional health may sometimes feel hard to do when there is so much going on. However, the feeling of growth, strength, hope and triumph are worth it when taking the step to improving one’s mental well-being. Navigating past or present stressors doesn’t have to be done alone. I have 8 years of social work practice and acquired experience in working with with children, adolescents and adults in addressing their anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, family conflict, crisis intervention and emotional instability.

You’ve got everything under control, except for when everything falls apart. It can feel debilitating to work so hard to keep your life on track and then feel overwhelmed by fear or shame or anger at a moment’s notice. You double down on trying to control it but it never seems to be possible and you’re worried that the life you’ve carefully built won’t be able to withstand more bumps. You know your stuff, you /understand/ what you should be doing but you can’t seem to get there and you feel stuck and embarrassed. Repeat repeat.

FAQs - About Therapy and Counseling

How can I find a therapist in Brooklyn?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
