I also believe the relationship is the foundation of change, so having a good fit is absolutely important to doing great work and getting life changing results.
Welcome and thank you for visiting my profile. I am a clinical social worker and licensed alcohol and drug counselor and have over 17 years of experience working with a diverse population of people in a variety of settings. Each one recognized that something needed to shift or change or maybe everything. Change isn't easy and while most of us know when the writing is on the wall, it's beefing up the courage and finding a launching point that is often the biggest hurdle we face. Most of us know what we want and certainly what we don't want but it's putting it into action that is often the stumbling block.

I may be the specialist when it comes to relationships, behavior, and brain science, but YOU are the specialist when it comes to what is going to work best and fit your life.
Are you going through a transition in your life that has you feeling overwhelmed and not knowing which way to turn? Are you someone who has big goals and even bigger dreams but find yourself feeling stuck? Or maybe you found your way here because you're struggling in your relationship and are looking for someone who can help you sort out your feelings and figure out how to move forward. If you can relate to any of these, you're not alone! So many of us are currently going through the scary and painful process of shedding the pieces of ourselves that no longer fit in order to fully embrace who we truly are. Change is hard, I can help

I have been a therapist for 20 years helping individuals and couples enlarge their life experience, deepen relationships and make meaning along the journey of life.
The art of therapy is one of listening deeply to what is being communicated. The work in therapy is to make meaning of the information and narrative. The process of therapy is to use the information to guide and effect change.

I am a certified life coach and have been working virtually since 2002.
I have never met an addict or alcoholic with a drug or drinking problem. Does this sound strange? The fact is I've met hundreds of individuals with a solution that is no longer working. Drugs and alcohol have been the solution, not the problem. Addicts and Alcoholics have an above average intelligence and a highly sensitive nervous system. This combination is especially challenging in these unprecedented times when it is natural to reach for relief in the form of a substance or behavioral addiction. If your solution is no longer working, I am here to help. I have maintained sobriety for over nearly 40 years. It can be done.

Working with me, you'll find a safe space to explore what's not working in your life.
You don’t have to navigate difficult times alone. I’d be honored to partner with you in uncovering your potential and addressing the obstacles in your way. Together, we’ll create your path toward physical, emotional, and social well-being as you desire. The healthcare system often fosters dependency, limiting individuals from achieving their best selves. As a board-certified nurse and life coach, my mission is to help individuals reclaim control of their wellness. With 24 years of experience and my own personal journey, I embrace holistic coaching to help clients overcome overwhelm, dependency, and disconnection.

In spiritual life coaching, I support individuals in finding their path through exploring their values, beliefs and goals.
I currently have opening for evening virtual sessions. Clinical counseling and coaching services are different and when I have availability, I welcome the opportunity to discuss both services with potential clients (please reach out to be added to my wait list). As people navigate their life journey, they may find themselves caught in reactivity to life's stressors, losing touch with the essence of who and what they are. This can lead to abandoning practices that nourish their body, mind and soul. In session, clients engage in practices which support rediscovering their potential and creating a life of balance and bliss.

I co-facilitate the course "Medical Intuition and Dreams That Can Save Your Life" at the Monroe Institute in Virginia.
My ideal client is a seeker, someone who is working on themselves to become more self-aware, or perhaps trying to understand the craziness of the world. They may be experiencing "spiritual emergencies," NDE's, having out of body experiences or psychic episodes. Most of their issues go beyond day to day problems. They may also have the desire to find the "root" cause of their health problems, and/or attempting to heal/bring their body into balance.

I've worked with people from all walks of life and and a wide array of challenges.
Tired of having the same arguments over and over? Wondering why you seem to be stuck in cycles with your partner, friends, colleagues or yourself? How often do you find yourself wondering, "what happened to that sweet loving person I fell in love with? How did Godzilla end up in my bed? Or worse yet, is that Medusa staring back at me in the mirror"? OK then.....welcome. I'm Joni Altshuler and after 30yrs in practice, I continue to be inspired and often awe struck by the people who walk thru my door.

My aim is to help you focus your strengths, recognize and grow your inner leader (of your life and circumstances); to help you no longer be frozen by reactions to the circumstances of your life and live a creative and inspiring life - why not now!.
July 24, 2024 - (Important: My availability remains mostly limited to coaching and private pay sessions at this time.) Most people I work with share concerns about what's wrong with them and that shows up as self blame, doubt, judgment and insecurity. I work frequently with adult men who experience ongoing symptoms related to attention deficit disorder.

Life Coaching Therapists

What can I expect from life coaching?

Clients and coaches will typically start by identifying the problem area(s) that the client hopes to address—then, the coach will help the client brainstorm potential solutions and explore concrete techniques to help the client attain their goals. Coaching is typically short-term and focused on finding solutions in the here and now, rather than exploring a client’s past. In addition to strategies aimed at the client’s specific concerns, coaches may encourage general stress management techniques such as meditation.

Can a life coach help treat anxiety?

Because the majority of life coaches are not licensed clinicians, they are not qualified to diagnose or treat anxiety. Anyone struggling with anxiety or another mental health condition should seek help from a licensed mental health practitioner. However, some coaching clients who struggle with subclinical anxiety report that working with their coach on other problems—such as career dissatisfaction or unhealthy habits—has a positive effect on their anxiety.

Can life coaching be done online?

Yes. While life coaching often happens in person, many coaches conduct sessions over the phone or via online platforms such as Zoom or Skype. Because life coaches are not subject to local licensing regulations in the same way that therapists are, they are able to see clients who live in other locations.

How long does life coaching last?

Life coaching tends to be a shorter-term process than therapy, though it does not always unfold over a specific period of time and is instead based on the coach’s or the client’s preferences. Coaching often takes place over three to 12 months but may be shorter or longer if necessary.
