Seeking professional psychological help can be a complicated undertaking. Some people seek help when in the throes of a crisis, others after a long time trying to fix something that is not right in their life. Family conflict, life transitions, relationship problems, anxieties and depression are some of the reasons people contact me for help. When people seek my assistance I try to understand all the factors (personal, family, work) that are impacting their life. This includes present circumstances and historical influences. In an evaluation I work with people to develop the best plan of treatment for their current situation.
This might include individual, family or couple's therapy. In this initial phase we will determine whether I am the best person to be of help. If not, we will work together to find the right professional. I have been practicing psychotherapy and teaching new therapists for over 20 years.
I have come to believe that curiosity and the courage to look deep within oneself are necessary in order to get the most out of therapy. Strong, sometimes difficult, emotions are often present. The work is not always easy, but it can be rewarding and life changing.
