The primary guiding principle in my approach to therapy is empathy. I am convinced that "feeling with" people is a key to healing. When people feel listened to and truly understood, an atmosphere of mutual respect is created. It has been my experience that people do not feel valued unless they know that someone is genuinely interested in understanding their pain.
I specialize in working with adults, adolescents and children who suffer from trauma, depression and anxiety as well as bipolar and obsessive compulsive disorders. I have over 30 years of experience treating various types of addiction and dual diagnosis.
I believe in a strength based approach to therapy. Assessing and utilizing a person's strengths is essential to building hope. Unfortunately a problem centered model has resulted in people being defined by their problem or diagnosis. A strength based approach protects and enhances the dignity of my clients.
