Within our sorrows and fears is the strength needed to overcome our challenges. Hidden in the tone of your voice, in your casual movements, you are constantly leaving yourself clues to guide you. You and I will seek them together. My approach focuses on the whole experience of health through practical methods, grounded in knowledge of cultural diversity. With personalized treatment and assessment, I offer therapy for sustainable change. I also provide testing for personality functioning, cognitive abilities and learning problems. My forensic work for courts focuses on child custody and parenting time evaluations.

The shared learning process allows for individual pace, personal awareness, and continued growth within the context of a therapy relationship.
Acknowledging a desire for 'something different' serves as the foundation for change and can set into motion holistic, enduring growth. I am invested in helping people alleviate emotional, relational, and psychological pain experienced during the course of life. My belief is that therapy is one approach to healing that works for many. Therefore, I seek to provide quality psychological services to individuals, couples, families, groups, and organizations.

I warmly welcome individuals of all ages—children, teens, and adults—who are interested in addressing issues related to anxiety, shame, self-esteem, and stress. It can be overwhelming to create change while navigating life all on your own. Through compassion, exploration, and perseverance, we can collaboratively forge a path toward the mental balance that I adamantly believe you deserve. In addition to supporting those dealing with anxiety and self-esteem challenges, I also specialize in helping individuals navigate major life transitions and education/learning concerns.

When it is a hard time to be a human, it is exponentially more difficult to be a caregiver. The good news is that you don’t have to do it alone. Reaching out for support can bring more ease and joy to your relationship with your child (or children). You might be interested in making sense of challenging or confusing behaviors; discipline & confident limit setting; understanding & responding to your child’s crying or tantrums; supporting play, independence & learning; clarifying your values & developing a caregiving approach; setting up a supportive environment; working with your own triggers, and/or carving out time for self care.

I value being real and supportive at the same time. I love what I do as a therapist and believe in being safe, trusting and accepting, no matter what may come! My office is (ever so slightly) cluttered and often gets the term "homey & comfortable" Dogs are welcome as well, due to their positive therapeutic benefit for their people (owners, minders & guardians). I value humor (when appropriate...granted, that's open to interpretation, right??!!) and use it as the situation arises, as in a give-and-take dynamic relationship. Life-long gamer & D&D geek, btw. :)

When life feels presents us with stress, whether it be from anxiety, depression, or trauma, it is not uncommon to feel overwhelmed and a sense that our lives have become unmanageable. My greatest satisfaction comes with assisting individuals in recognizing their power to grow and thrive. I assist my clients, who include adolescents and adults, in finding ways to change their relationship to thoughts and emotions and develop a stronger sense of self, establishing core values, and creating an action plan linked to goals based on those values.

Email is best for contact, calling may delay response time. I see clients in WA and OR some in person, mostly virtual. My ideal client...might have anxiety, dealing with relational issues, struggling with depression, might feel isolated or lonely or might need support in other areas of life. My clients might be somewhat scared to approach change and some may be goal oriented. Some clients that I see might struggle to really know the path they wish to take or how to begin their therapeutic journey. My client/s may wish to work on self care and self love and integrate that in each of their personal goals. My clients are resilient.

Being a parent, or caregiver, is no small thing. There are so many challenges now-a-days. The child mental health crisis has grown, and with it, the family mental health crisis, which means treatment must include the family as a whole. My role as a therapist is to assist your child and family as a whole in working towards your goals by offering a supportive and safe space, and providing the opportunity for growth as a family.

How effective is treatment for learning disabilities?
When initiated early and tailored to a child’s specific needs, learning disability treatment can be quite effective at helping a child cope with their disability, though its exact efficacy may depend on the severity of symptoms and whether comorbid disorders exist. Less is known about treatment initiated in adulthood, but it is certainly possible that an adult with a learning disability will see some improvement—or at the very least, identify workarounds and accommodations that could make symptoms less burdensome in day-to-day life.
When should someone seek treatment for learning disabilities?
It’s best to seek treatment as early as possible. Because learning disabilities often go unnoticed until a child starts school, or even until they’re a few years along, regular check-ins with teachers and doctors can help parents determine whether children are meeting milestones and keeping up with peers or whether an evaluation for learning disabilities may be warranted. And although earlier is always better, it’s never too late to be evaluated for learning disabilities and to seek treatment.
What happens if learning disabilities are left untreated?
Undiagnosed and untreated learning disabilities can be a source of significant frustration and shame for a child, who may feel that their challenges stem from a lack of intelligence or willpower. Such feelings can trigger low self-esteem, depression, or anxiety, which may push a child toward risky behaviors, including substance use. In adulthood, untreated learning disabilities can interfere with career success, and lingering feelings of self-doubt and shame can negatively affect someone’s mental health.
Are there medications for learning disabilities?
Currently, there are no medications designed to treat specific learning disabilities such as dysgraphia or dyscalculia. However, someone with a learning disability may be prescribed medication for a comorbid condition, such as anxiety, depression, or ADHD, which may have positive downstream effects on their learning disability; for example, a child with both ADHD and dyslexia may find that they’re better able to focus on their reading exercises after being prescribed a stimulant medication.
