You've been struggling for some time with being all alone in the world. You constantly have nagging worries that you will never find happiness or fulfillment. None of your friends understand what you are going through. It is so difficult to believe that things will ever get better. Close partners in your life abandoned you when you needed them the most. You try to move on, but you catch yourself thinking things like, “Am I attractive?” “Why don’t I feel good enough?” "What if I spend the rest of my life alone?" "What if I really am a failure?" The truth is, you deserve to live a life free of worry and fear. You deserve to thrive.

I approach counseling with the conviction that each person was created to thrive in life and relationships. Everyone encounters problems, pain, loss and many other challenges, but these do not need to determine one's identity or future. My therapeutic approach addresses the client's mind, emotions, spirit, and body, creating a holistic approach to healing and growth. I work to create a safe atmosphere for clients to share openly and move towards their goals.

Trauma is often weaved in and through the fabric of our lives. Many think of trauma as one large scale traumatic event. However, complex trauma is not always a single event. It could be a failed attachment to our care takers, experiencing abuse/neglect, multiple losses, shattered relationships, or the inability to protect ourselves emotionally with healthy boundaries. The most disturbing part of a trauma is not only the event itself, but how we perceived the event, and the internalized negative core beliefs about ourselves that developed.

Does your life feel out of control - like you're at your wit's end? Maybe you feel nobody understands what you're going through or what you've been through. When life feels confusing and heavy, it's hard to know where to turn. I invite you to dare to imagine a life where you feel grounded and secure. It is possible to learn to connect, both with yourself and others, heal from your pain, and grow into the person you truly are. It is within your reach to re-claim your life if you so choose.

Change is a natural part of life, and yet it can be challenging and even, at times, paralyzing. However, change can also provide us with opportunities to grow and become the kind of people we aim to be. Finding out what those goals are and how to get there is a collaborative process between client and therapist. I am consistently inspired by people who show resilience and persevere through very tough times as they seek solutions to their problems. I am honored to walk with them as they make that journey and I am always changed by the process as well.

I remember my very 1st client contemplating suicide with hopelessness in her heart. My 2nd client was a school teacher of 14 years, still feeling a desire to do more, but didn't know where to begin. My 3rd client was an ambitious businessman, struggling with finding his life'purpose, but was worth 5.7 million dollars. My 4th client was a Homemaker recovering from an anti-depressant addiction, trying to find her HAPPY PLACE while balancing being a mother & wife. My ideal client is someone that's READY to take - ACTION - NOW in their life. They understand that it is a life or death situation that they begin LIVING NOW!

I work with adults of all backgrounds and seek to create a warm, open, and flexible space for each person I work with. I work with people who want to be more aware of their thought processes and to gain more understanding of their emotions and behaviors. Many want to feel more competent and capable in living their daily lives and managing life's challenges in a skillful and effective manner. A main focus of our work together will be on maximizing your experiences and pre-existing skills and wisdom so that you can partner with me (and your treatment team) in setting the stage for achieving your goals.

I enjoy helping individuals, couples and families find their way to healing and connection. We spend at least 12 years preparing for a career, but we don't learn how to do marriage or repair conflict. Together, we will work to consider the influences that form your attachment style, behavioral patterns, and beliefs about yourself and your surroundings. It is common to continue those familiar patterns into adulthood, which can create challenging dynamics in life and in relationships. Learning these skills early in your relationship can improve the quality of your connection for a lifetime.

LPC Associate serving individuals and couples in the state of Texas. Most frequently I work with adults, teens, and couples experiencing life transitions, internal conflict, and relational conflict on their journeys toward connection and wholeness. For some this might look like finding coping skills to grow through feelings of depression and anxiety; for others, it can look like processing the impact of family dynamics on your current relationships with yourself and others. Folks experiencing challenges at the intersections of race, religion, sexuality, and culture are all welcome!

Everyone at one point or another has had difficulty in their lives. Sometimes, we are aware of problems that are causing us distress, other times, we just can’t seem to figure out “what is wrong”. My aim as your potential counselor is to provide support, guidance, and provide a nonjudgmental space for you to seek clarity using a collaborative approach. I understand that seeking help can be frightening, but you are not alone on this journey. Many of us fear sharing our private pain, hurt feelings, or concerns stirring us emotionally. Anxiety is a normal part of talking to a therapist about your challenges.

FAQs - About Therapy and Counseling

How can I find a therapist in Dallas?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
