Using narrative & psychoanalytic approaches, where you are the expert of your own story, provides you the space to explore how past experiences inform the way you function today.
Are you struggling to be understood in your relationships? Is it hard to share your feelings with others? Maybe you are not even sure what it is you are feeling. Keeping up with the transitions in life is tough. We all experience hard times in our lives at some point and finding a supportive therapist can be helpful.

Reaching out to a therapist for problems such as ADHD, Anxiety, Depression or Autism Spectrum Disorders can be tough. Finding someone who is empathetic, experienced and effective is important to change! Over the last 15 years I have helped individuals and families with a wide range of issues, and have developed these specialties. I incorporate Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Family Systems theory, while adding an understanding of neuropsychological functioning to help my clients. These methods have been clinically proven and are evidence based treatments.

My ideal client would be someone ready to dig their heals in and begin to sort through all the layers of life that have accumulated. Soul level work can be beautifully life changing but deep and painful at times. I consider our work together as a commitment to you and the next layer of your life journey. It is precious and sacred. Therapy is a safe place where we peel back the layers of masks we wear every day and just "get real" about ourselves and where we want our lives to lead. Hopefully, our collaboration will encourage you live the life for which you were created.

Everyone experiences challenges and transitions during life. Therapy allows an individual time to process these changes as well as learn alternative ways to address them. The therapeutic relationship is a collaborative approach in which the therapist and client explore and define problem situations and develop future goals.

I draw from my experiences working in hospitals, theatre, and teaching settings to cultivate a creative and warm therapeutic environment. I practice narrative therapy, so I co-work with clients to consider the contexts, cultures, and structures of power which influence and create their worlds. Through this effort, I help clients relate to “problems” as culturally specific phenomenons that exist outside of us. I see humans as inseparable from their environment, so explore relationship dynamics inside and outside of the therapy room. I sometimes write my clients letters about our sessions, so if you enjoy pen pals, I'm your guy!

Allow me to teach you how to change your life’s narrative and learn ways to decipher the positive from the negative.
Counseling is not just an educational endeavor for me, it is my true life’s passion. As my primary spiritual/natural gift, my purpose on earth is to utilize my counseling skills to serve others in any capacity that I can. We have all felt sad, angry, lonely, misunderstood, unforgiven, misused, abused, fed up, and so on and so forth. Our goal in therapy would be to examine your emotional well being and how it impacts your life. While you process through everything from past trauma to current conflicts, it is significant to know that your growth and healing is what is most important to me.

Narrative Therapists

Is narrative therapy evidence-based?

Narrative therapy is not well-studied, and it may not be as effective in treating mental health conditions when compared with evidence-based treatments such as cognitive behavioral therapy. Some small studies do show that depressed and anxious individuals who were treated with narrative therapy reported improvement in anxiety and depression symptoms.

How long does narrative therapy last?

Narrative therapy is less structured when compared with psychoanalysis, for example. Narrative therapy is more open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a few months, and sometimes a year or longer. Patients see their therapist one to two times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a person’s challenges and progress. Individuals can also practice the principles of narrative therapy after treatment has ended.

Does narrative therapy work?

Narrative therapy can help a person manage or reduce symptoms of conditions like depression or anxiety. This type of therapy encourages a person to reflect on the moments of their life when their particular problem was not at the forefront of their minds—perhaps life celebrations, achievements, and other successes. The individual is encouraged to rewrite their storyline as if their particular problem was not part of their life. This therapy may offer benefits that are hard to measure.

What are the possible limitations of narrative therapy?

Narrative therapy is person-centered or client-centered, and the health professional pays more attention to the subjective narratives that are constructed by the client, as opposed to other objective measures. The therapist privileges the individual’s perspective over all others. This open form may feel frustrating for individuals seeking a more structured approach; certainly, no one therapy type will work for every individual.
