I have a heart to help people who are hurting and looking for relief, change, and hope. Maybe you're looking at life right now and it looks bleak, but you don't know what's wrong and much less how to fix it, or maybe you know exactly what your problem is, but you don’t know what to do about it or you just need an unbiased ear to sit with you, listen to you, and walk through the struggle with you as we work to find a solution. Regardless of your situation, I would love to help.

I have had the privilege to work in multiple clinical settings before moving into private practice. I felt that this was much like mental health bootcamp and I found it highly beneficial. Through these experiences I was able to determine the areas of mental health that I am best suited to. In my practice I focus on Complex Post Traumatic Stress due to a variety of abusive experiences such as narcissistic, sexual, emotional, mental, and physical abuse. I also work with co-occurring disorders such as addiction and; bi-polar disorder, anxiety, and depression. I work with individuals, couples, teens and families.

Life can be tough. There are times when we find ourselves feeling lost, overwhelmed, or unheard. We experience a range of emotions and face situations that can be difficult to manage alone. Counseling is a tool to gain clarity and direction when things seem too foggy to navigate on our own. As a counselor, it is my goal to provide my clients with a counseling relationship built on trust, empathy, and unconditional positive regard. I strive be a partner in helping clients to discover and build upon the strengths and potential they already have within themselves.

Thrive: to grow, develop, succeed. It is to prosper; to flourish. To be your best self. Sometimes the first step of just reaching out is the hardest. Growing up watching my grandmother struggle daily with mental illness, I naturally grew to have a heart for helping other people. I have spent the last decade of my life in the helping community and I believe that it is my life’s purpose to help people actualize the life they wish to have. I explain my position as a therapist by saying this to my clients, “It’s not my job to fix you because you are not broken. It’s my job to help you see things in a different way that will help you to function better” I welcome you as clients to embark on this journey of healing. It’s not always easy but the results with be so rewarding.

Becoming a mother is one of the biggest and most challenging transitions that a woman can experience. It is common for new moms to struggle with changes to their relationships, body, and sense of identity. Pressure and judgment from others about parenting choices can increase feelings of self-doubt, anxiety, and depression. Navigating this new role can be isolating and lonely. Feelings of guilt can make it difficult for new moms to talk about their struggles, which makes that feeling of being disconnected from others even greater.

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
