I view therapy as an opportunity to explore life issues in a creative and supportive environment. Therapy is different for everyone, and I hope to offer you a space to sit with and process current and past issues as well as offer tangible resources in building the life you want. As a part of the LGBTQ+ community, I enjoy working with queer, trans, and nonbinary folks. I work with adolescents, teens and adults. I aim to meet people where they are to work collaboratively towards their goals. My focus areas are LGTBQ+ affirmative counseling, substance use, and relational issues.

Peace of mind. It's something we all yearn for, yet life's challenges can make it feel so elusive. Issues like substance use, anxiety, and depression often stand in the way. But that's where therapy comes in. It takes courage to seek help when you need it most. Amidst the struggles, it's difficult to pause and appreciate the small moments when the weight of larger issues looms overhead. Life is full of hurdles and uncertainties, but wherever you are in your journey of healing, I'll be there to walk alongside you. Because even when hope feels distant, it's always within reach.

Gabrielle Fischler has experience navigating individuals through challenges such as anxiety, depression, substance use, relationships, trauma, disconnection, and much more.
Many of us often feel overwhelmed, that too many things are spiraling out of control, causing exhausting stress or unbearable burden. Maybe you feel flat and empty; disconnected from your sense of vitality, or that your inner world is confusing, causing you to feel lost. There are many reasons why we may lose our sense of peace, hope, joy, or security. Perhaps you are a parent at a loss of how to support your child or a young adult who is feeling unseen and disrespected. Fostering internal trust and compassion can be monumental in providing direction and a regained sense of self.

*Be aware I am not currently taking any new patients due to my schedule being completely full for the foreseeable future. I believe that healing can happen through the process of empathic and supportive counseling. I work with mood issues, personality disorders, grief, substance use and much more. I utilize a culturally sensitive and holistic psychodynamic style of therapy. This approach encourages development in all areas of life (relationships, thoughts, behaviors, emotions, careers, etc.), and pays special attention to unconscious factors and cultural identity (race, religion, sexuality, gender, disability, etc).

Hello, I am Laura Whites, a licensed clinical social worker helping individuals with complicated grief, loss, panic, anxiety and compulsive behaviors. I expand on the word loss to include anything or anyone that is important to you or any major life event that has shaken you. Many of my clients use unhelpful behaviors to manage their painful emotions. Some of the behaviors I work with are disordered eating, excessive spending and substance use but this can be any unhelpful behavior that takes you away from the person you want to be.

Substance Use Therapists
How do substance and drug recovery or rehabilitation programs work?
In inpatient programs, individuals live in a facility with other clients in recovery; in outpatient programs, individuals reside at home. These facilities are staffed with healthcare professionals including physicians, nurses, psychologists, counselors, and psychotherapists. Staff often also includes people who have recovered themselves, serving as mentors and guides. These programs may use abstinence, harm reduction, detoxification, psychotherapy, and other methods.
How do 12-step programs combined with psychotherapy work?
Members of 12-step programs help each other reach abstinence and work to maintain it. These programs promote complete change in the individual’s emotional, mental, physical, and even spiritual perspectives. Some programs require that new members attend 90 meetings in 90 days. Many people do attend these programs in conjunction with their work in psychotherapy; the combination of therapy along with 12-step can be extremely effective.
How does harm reduction combined with psychotherapy work?
According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, harm reduction prevents death, injury, disease, overdose, and substance misuse. People who choose harm reduction for substance use reduce the amount of drugs they consume. It is not abstinence-based like a 12-step program, but combining harm reduction with psychotherapy proves to be effective for many people.
Are there specific medications for substance and drug use?
There are medications approved to treat substance use disorder—such as buprenorphine, methadone, naltrexone, and acamprosate. These medications do help people cope with substance use as well as avoid the problem of relapse. Naltrexone can help reduce cravings, methadone is an opioid medication used to treat severe pain, and acamprosate may help ease symptoms like poor sleep and anxious feelings.
