I am a licensed professional counselor in the states of NJ and LA. I have over 10 years of experience and am passionate about helping adults with ADHD, depression, anxiety, trauma, grief, and cancer. Some of my client focus groups are educators, professionals in the service industry, and those undergoing treatment or in remission from cancer. I utilize a person centered approach, meaning I believe the client has all the tools needed to promote healing and change and that an authentic and compassionate relationship can create a safe space to explore and process that healing and change. Accepting some insurances in LA.

This is a beginning; change is difficult. It's strength, not weakness, to seek help and make changes. Learning how to see our behaviors from a different perspective is valuable. Healing often comes through verbalizing our feelings. You will feel heard, respected, validated, receive constructive feedback and gain greater insight and understanding in a safe, non-judgmental environment. I focus on your strengths as a means to help facilitate change and promote independence. I am a very down-to-earth person and I am often told by my clients that it's easy to talk and relate to me.

I work with clients who want to live meaningful, satisfying lives in the context of their relationships--with their own selves, with significant others and in their careers. I use a variety of methods in the context of the collaborative therapeutic relationship. I emphasize treating the whole person, not just the symptom, in a safe environment. I work well with clients who believe that "the examined life" is the best life to live. One of the major goals of psychotherapy is to help clients identify and to change self defeating behaviors."

I empower individuals to change their perceptions about issues that are unhealthy and assist them in facilitating positive change. I approach therapy with clients from a wellness model (having issues they need assistance managing) as opposed to a medical model (being broken and needing to be fixed). My favorite quote is from Alfred Adler in 1927, "The hardest thing for human beings to do is to know themselves and to change themselves." I enjoy helping clients gain insight that can be helpful to facilitate change in perceptions and ultimately in their lives. I have evening availability.

Are you finding it hard to navigate everyday life? Are your relationships suffering? Are you simply exhausted? If you answered “yes” to any of these questions, please know you CAN live a different life. Relationship issues, trauma, grief/loss, anxiety/depression, and many other issues are challenging. Handling these issues on your own may seem impossible. You do not have to go it alone when counseling is available. I bring an inclusive approach to my work with everyone.

Are you feeling stressed, overwhelmed or disconnected? Some days feel more impossible than others when you consider everything on your list. You constantly battle the voice in your head that says you're never good enough. You're exhausted, yet you still put on a good face and put everyone and everything before yourself. Maybe it's the relationship, work, motherhood, or family but you often feel unseen, hopeless, insecure and unsatisfied in life. You worry that if you attempt a change you’ll for sure lose the little bit of love connection and sanity you have left. You feel out of control and need a sense of agency. I see you.

Are you tired? Do you feel like life throws you one obstacle after another? Are you so overwhelmed that you sometimes feel paralyzed by stress or anxiety? If so, you're not alone. As a Black woman and New Orleans native, I understand what it means to embody resilience while weary of being known for that characteristic. But as a counselor, I understand how important emotional well-being, healthy relationships, and internal motivation are for sustaining difficult times. Therapy is a wonderful tool that can help you achieve stability and wellness. Don't let fear, worry, depression or shame keep holding you back from the life you want.

Are you having difficulties regulating your emotions, behaviors, and/or attention? These difficulties may be negatively impacting your relationships, performance at work or school, and overall well-being. You may cope through people pleasing, perfectionism, procrastination /avoidance, or isolation. These behaviors may have developed to protect yourself from painful internalized beliefs and emotion, but ultimately you feel exhausted and unfulfilled. I primarily work with adults but also teens 16+ who want support for executive functioning, anxiety, stress, burnout, life transitions, low self-esteem, and relationships concerns.

Unresolved childhood trauma has a lingering impact. You may look back on certain events or relationships and feel overwhelmed by painful emotions, hurtful memories, and confusion. You might struggle to set boundaries, honor your values, express your needs, or be kind to yourself. Childhood trauma might also be a reason you feel stuck in relationship patterns, manage stress in unhealthy ways, feel disconnected from your body or emotions, or struggle with perfectionism and shame. If this is you, I'm so glad you are here. You deserve to heal, to feel safe, to be the one who decides how your life goes moving forward.

Female Therapists

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
