Emotions tend to be at their root of what concerns us. The fashion we act when our feelings are something we deny generally causes our dominant issues: depression, anxiety, anger, guilt, sadness. With reflection and foundational understanding we can begin growing towards a better life every day.

I also use psychodynamic, cognitive behavioral, and ACT ( Acceptance, Commitment Therapy) techniques.
Before you give up on your present relationship, let me help you to learn skills that create safety and security in communication. You can find new pathways to heal instead of hurting your partner or yourself. You can experience a renewed sense of aliveness and intimacy in your relationship. I specialize in marriage/relationship/and family counseling. I work with adolescents and adults who would like to improve their communication skills in their relationships at home or work/school.

Dr. Klenck holds specialized training in evidence-based practices such as cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, exposure therapy, and mindfulness-based practices for the treatment of anxiety, depression, bipolar and related disorders and a wide range of other difficulties. Dr. Klenck focuses on evidence-based treatment and evidence-based assessment practices, but finds the most important factor in therapy is the therapeutic relationship. Without a strong alliance with the client, she finds a therapist is limited in their ability to help the individual effect change.

Working toward a fulfilling life, while facing obstacles, can be hard. We all, at some point, find ourselves lost and stuck. I work collaboratively with clients to help them get through those stuck moments, to choose a direction, and to take steps toward the lives they really want. My methods are grounded in the proven Acceptance and Commitment Therapy ( ACT), which incorporates mindfulness and behavior-change strategies. ACT focuses on learning to live fully, even when painful things threaten to slow us down. I am also trained in several trauma-based approaches, including EMDR.

My primary approaches are reality therapy and acceptance and commitment therapy ( ACT).
Are you tired? Do you feel like life throws you one obstacle after another? Are you so overwhelmed that you sometimes feel paralyzed by stress or anxiety? If so, you're not alone. As a Black woman and New Orleans native, I understand what it means to embody resilience while weary of being known for that characteristic. But as a counselor, I understand how important emotional well-being, healthy relationships, and internal motivation are for sustaining difficult times. Therapy is a wonderful tool that can help you achieve stability and wellness. Don't let fear, worry, depression or shame keep holding you back from the life you want.

As your therapist, I will take extra care to always approach our relationship with warmth, acceptance, and compassion.
Life can be challenging, but it can also be wonderful and exciting. Challenge finds its way into our lives and we are not always equipped to manage life's demands, but I want you to know you are not alone in this. Feeling comfortable with your therapist is so important, and creating a strong bond with clients is my favorite part of the process. Whether you are struggling with issues such as depression, anxiety, self-esteem, or just feeling like life isn’t what you expected — my hope is that our work together will offer you a safe environment to process your experiences and to be truly seen and heard.

Acceptance and Commitment (ACT) Therapists

How does acceptance and commitment therapy work?

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy encourages a person to listen to their self-talk. A person’s inner dialog can be indicative of how they treat themselves. ACT also encourages self-compassion; this can lead to a better understanding of negative thought patterns and emotional states. This understanding can then lead the individual to needed behavior change.

What are the goals of acceptance and commitment therapy?

The goal of acceptance and commitment is to expand a person’s psychological flexibility, a trait that encourages an individual to live in the present moment and to accept all their thoughts, feelings, and emotions, even ones that are difficult such as sadness and anxiety. In ACT, this acceptance is congruent with the individual’s values and beliefs.

Does acceptance and commitment therapy work for depression?

Acceptance and commitment therapy is effective for depression because it allows the individual to view their discomfort and suffering differently. Depressive feelings about relationship heartaches, for example, are a part of life. A despondent person learns to let go of their struggles and instead view their painful thoughts and feelings with compassion. This will lead the individual toward positive change.

How long are people typically in acceptance and commitment therapy?

A typical acceptance and commitment therapy session is 50 minutes long with one session per week. Treatment for common problems such as anxiety, depression, or relationship difficulties can last between eight weeks to four months. However, more severe cases may require more than one session a week and/or a longer time frame for treatment.
