With a safe environment to complete self-exploration, major life changes, depression, and anxiety, together we can process those experiences together.
Hi there! Today’s the day you make a step towards seeking professional guidance. Nothing about making the decision to seek therapy is easy, but with someone on your side to encourage you along the way, it gets easier with time. Daily life stressors and life’s challenges can cause minor disruptions, but we can learn, as time goes by, better coping skills. Not only are coping skills effective, but they can help us learn how to readjust and live life on life’s terms. I have worked in many setting to include but are not limited to residential and inpatient settings.

Hello! Thank you for visiting my profile and for being open to this experience. I view the counseling process as developing a relationship between the counselor and client in which we explore and define the client's presenting issue. We would then work together to examine those issues and create counseling goals to improve the client's welfare. I strive to have my clients feel warmth, genuineness, and understanding within the counseling relationship. Trust and mutual respect are also needed components to enhance the counseling experience.

If you find yourself feeling anxious or worried, stuck in your relationship or having trouble letting go of past trauma, let me help you find your way to a more peaceful, healthy and positive place.
I believe in the importance of building a strong counseling relationship to create an avenue for change. Our initial session together will be focused around exploring and setting goals and seeing if we are the right fit to help you reach those goals. You might be feeling confused or scared about where to turn and how to start. Sometimes it helps to talk to someone who doesn't already know you. Someone who won't judge you. That is why I focus on creating a safe space in which you will feel comfortable.

Specific areas of experience is in families and individuals develop skills to deal with anxiety, depression, behavioral changes and life transitions.
Through my life experience and education I believe developing supportive relationships has the power to reduce the effects of trauma for a child, parents and families. I approach therapy sessions differently depending on the client’s needs and goals. If it is the client’s goal to work on a current obstacle in life or lifetime of trauma I see it as an honor to help the client navigate the process of healing. Allowing a safe space for people to explore their emotions and develop skills to create a congruent environment around them and navigate the unknowns in life.

My specialties are disruptive behaviors in children, adolescents, and adults that stem from ADHD, autism spectrum disorders, anxiety, OCD, depression, and family strife.
I enjoy working with children and adults in a personalized approach tailored to each patient's unique situation. My theoretical background is rooted in cognitive behavioral therapy, family therapy, play therapy, and psychodynamic therapy, but I pull from many sources in creating a treatment plan. I enjoy tackling diagnostic puzzles and working closely with patients and families to get to the bottom of what causes disruption in someone's life. Most consider me direct and no nonsense. I trained in Exposure Response Prevention for OCD treatment in both children and adults and enjoy these treatment challenges.

As a social worker for more than 24 years, my clinical practice has enabled me to work with a diverse group of people representing all ages and stages of their lives and careers. I have appreciated helping each one with their challenges as they worked through their changes to evolve to their next stage of life.

Anxiety Therapists

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
