Everyone at some time or another, feel like they're alone and that nobody around them gets it. You feel disconnected and so you respond by isolating yourself from the things and people you love. Whether it be work, home, family, friends, or just a battle within yourself; I'm here. I care. It's perfectly OK to NOT be ok and it's perfectly fine to NOT have all the answers. Life is about the journey and the journey is a process that we all must endure. However, that doesn't mean that we are always on the right path or have all the tools we need in order to be successful.

"When I let go of what I am, I become what I might be"( Lao Tzu). Life transitions are a constant thread in our lives, and sometimes a person needs a little guidance to help them make the transition and evolve from their efforts. As a social worker for more than 24 years, my clinical practice has enabled me to work with a diverse group of people representing all ages and stages of their lives and careers. I have appreciated helping each one with their challenges as they worked through their changes to evolve to their next stage of life.

From the time I was young, I knew I cared. I cared about people and wanted to help others experience more fulfilling lives and relationships. I didn’t realize at the time that I wanted those experiences for myself as well. My experience growing up in a family where addiction caused great pain led me to my own problematic relationships with people, food, money and religion. Now I care about myself in ways that I never imagined possible before taking those first scary steps into my therapist’s office and asking for help. I experience life and relationships in more rewarding ways than was previously possible for me.

If you are feeling overwhelmed by life, I hope you'll reach out to me! Everyone needs someone to talk to sometimes, especially a neutral person who isn't part of their social or family circle, doesn't need them to "get better," doesn't want to fix all their problems for them, and might have ideas to help them cope.
I love working with adults seeking help to process a life event or past trauma. My clients seek help dealing with symptoms of anxiety, depression, burn out, irritability, physical issues like migraines or digestive problems, or just wondering why they respond the way they do. Most are coping with more feelings than usual, healing from a loss, and hope to feel like themselves again. Other clients may be aware of unhealed trauma from childhood that they now feel ready to process.

I analyze my clients' life experiences and circumstances, focusing on family dynamics and reflections on the inner child, and I employ relaxation meditations and spiritual affirmations to help my clients alleviate suffering and create life centering practices.
As a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with over 14 years of experience, my practice is centered on helping my clients find balance and deepen their ability to access true wellbeing. My work, both inpatient and outpatient, has ranged from helping adolescents bolster self esteem and coping skills on one end to helping adults who have suffered from mood and personality disorders on the other. My specialty, though, lies in the treatment of depression and anxiety disorders, and my work and anecdotal research has allowed me to develop a keen approach to the healing of these ailments on the path to achieving long term mental wellness.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
