I have 14 years experience in a hospital setting, assisting trauma victims and their families with illness and loss.
When you're feeling down, even the most mundane stressors can be too much to bear. Talking with a caring professional in a warm and supportive environment can be an invaluable life experience. With almost 30 years of experience working with individuals and couples, I feel confident that I can help.

Therapy is about connecting with another person in such a way that you feel understood and valued, while trusting that your best interest is being served. There are many different ways to achieve this goal. My approach centers on working with people to understand their unique values and beliefs, which ultimately guides their experiences, and developing goals and strategies together to work toward their desired outcome. By asking the question, "what does better look like?", you are already on your way.

In today’s fast-paced world of high demands and overstimulation, people need a peaceful place to relax and refocus. They need to be heard without judgement or interruption. Children need a caring adult to be present with them in the moment, someone to provide them with undivided attention. Teenagers need understanding. Couples need unbiased perspective. Every person's needs matter.

This is not the life you pictured, is it? You know things need to change but have no idea where to start. Being a human in this fast-paced society is quite difficult and often times heartbreaking. I strive to place the therapeutic relationship as my primary focus, because until someone feels authentically accepted, change is not going to be possible.

In a world filled with labels and titles, we are all simply human first. Being human means we are all bound to get it wrong sometimes no matter how much we have (or don’t have) figured out. Life is hard, and it’s natural that challenges sometimes cloud the way we see ourselves and the world; however, I believe worthiness is our birthright, and it is my goal as a clinician to help my clients see that their worthiness has no prerequisite and isn’t something to be earned.

I specialize in working with individuals 16+ who are experiencing anxiety, depression, relationship issues, work-related stress, family issues, anxiety, depression, grief, OCD, ADHD, trauma, and adjustment difficulties.
Clients come to therapy for a variety of reasons, but the result they want is the same. They want change, something different. Sometimes, those of us who are successful in other areas of life struggle to make and sustain change in the areas most personal, most important to us. They are out of tools and ideas, that's where therapy comes in. A good therapist not only listens, but helps clarify goals. They help clients understand and accept their own thoughts and feelings, while keeping the goal of change in sight. A good therapist draws on a client's strengths while also helping them develop new strategies and coping skills.

Hello! I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with experience providing care to a wide range of clients, but my focus has been working with people finding their way through grief and loss. While grief is a universally human experience, most of us don't talk or share much about it, much less how to live through it. No one is meant to grieve alone, and it is my privilege to join others on this path.

I have a particularly keen understanding of issues faced by people dealing with chronic illnesses, caregiving, and a variety of grief & loss issues (both death & non- death related such as a relationship loss).
Are thoughts of retirement or making career changes bringing up fear and angst for you? Have you recently become a caregiver for a loved one who is struggling with a chronic illness or have you been diagnosed with a life-threatening chronic illness and are still coming to terms with it? Are you struggling with a relationship loss or a death loss? As we go through life we undergo so many transitions- some planned and some unplanned. If you need a safe space to explore how these transitions are affecting you then I may be the professional for you.

I not only have counseled clients with some of life's most difficult heartaches, I have experienced childhood abuse, domestic violence, and grief.
While I am trained in counseling theories and techniques, I believe using the Bible as a guide to explore the emotions that often paralyze our daily lives and relationships is fundamental to reaching healing and growth. I have earned a Doctor of Education, Master of Education, Post-Master in Marriage & Family Therapy, and a Kentucky License in Pastoral Counseling.

Grief Therapists

How long does therapy take for grief?

There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?

Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?

Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?

Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
