I became a counselor so I could help people on their journey to becoming the best version of themselves. Everyone goes through different seasons in life, I want to be there in their season of need.

The deepest need and wish for us as humans is to have lives with meaning and relationships that work; to feel happy overall, even when hard realities must be faced. When frustration, anxiety or depression block out happiness, it can seem impossible to feel okay again. Sometimes, the need is just for some guidance to improve or change a way of living, reacting or being in relationship. But often there are deeper issues that get in the way, such as past trauma, betrayals, negative beliefs or problem behaviors. Whatever the need, I work with individuals and couples to remove obstacles, to heal and to make positive changes.

I love what I do, it is both my purpose and passion. I describe my working style as being one of a navigator. I help individuals navigate their personal struggles, desires/needs, and blind spots. I encourage my clients to take the steering wheel, while I navigate from the passenger seat. My goal is to ensure you maintain the right path and ultimately reach the desired destination. Ask yourself, am I inching closer, each day towards the best version of my life, or am I on the wrong path and going the wrong way? As far as my approach, my job is to adapt to you and figure out which therapeutic modality will be most effective.

Individual psychotherapy takes place in the bounds (or happens in the space) of an essential therapeutic relationship between therapist and patient. It can be incredibly painful to feel alone, even when your partner is right beside you. Marriage and relationships are among life’s greatest joys, but when things aren’t going well, the distance between you can feel insurmountable. Arguments, disconnection, and repetitive cycles can make it difficult to share yourself with the person you love. Through couples counseling, you and your partner can work together to build understanding and compassion for each other's experiences. It’s about moving beyond being two ships passing in the night, and instead, finding a way to truly connect. As you develop understanding,

Everyone has a story they want to tell, more than likely about how their life can be better than it is. In those stories are the goals they aspire for (better relationships, more self-esteem and achieving personal goals). If you want to help someone reach their goals you must first listen to their story. Only then can you walk with them towards a better tomorrow than they have today.

Hi, I’m Dave! I am passionate about helping adults with ADHD, anxiety, & depression learn to lead more fulfilling lives. I know first-hand how it feels to live with these conditions, which means I can help you learn realistic and attainable ways to improve your quality of life. I offer sincere empathy for your situation while also helping you challenge yourself to make improvements in your day-to-day living. While simply talking about your problems can help decrease the intensity of your anxiety and depression in many circumstances, what’s even more helpful is to learn about how your mind works and how to handle tough issues

I see my role as a therapist as one of transferring fundamental knowledge while cultivating critical thinking skills by applying theory and concepts to current health-, economic, - and industry-related issues. Through this application, areas that are void of knowledge will ultimately emerge. I offer an authentic presence within a collaborative, understanding relationship in which self-discovery can be non-threatening. I believe in practicing rigorously authenticity, surrounding the outcome, and doing uncomfortable work to reach the goals that we all want to achieve in life.

Male Therapists

As a man, why might I want to see a male therapist?

There are many reasons a man might wish to work with a male therapist, including a degree of shared identity, which may help client and therapist connect to each other and allow for a more free-flowing discussion of issues that can be deeply personal. Some men may feel more comfortable talking to a male therapist about relationship concerns, the pressures they feel around the roles society and family place on men, career or job challenges, self-esteem, or anger problems. For some men who have not had a male role models in their lives, a good male therapist may be especially helpful.

How can I find out about a therapist’s experience treating men?

Individuals looking for treatment should feel comfortable directly asking a therapist about their history treating men overall and the issues that arise in therapy with men. A good therapist will be happy to discuss such matters as well as their educational background, approach to treatment, and how they think they can aid a prospective client. Prospective clients should also ask what the expectation is for treatment, and what the fee structure is, and whether and which insurance plans are accepted.

Can clients benefit from having a therapist of the same gender?

Therapy is not gender-specific, but some men as well as women feel more comfortable opening up about their experiences and history with a male therapist. An individual may feel that they have to explain less background information and be on the same page more quickly, particularly when discussing gender-specific challenges, in the case of male clients. Some women have prior negative experiences with women that predispose them to prefer working with a male in therapy. That said, a good clinician can transcend most if not all gender concerns. Ultimately, the most important factor in therapy is the connection and trust the client is able to build with the practitioner.

Would a male therapist have specific training in treating men?

Generally, no. There are no certifications for treating men specifically, but there are continuing education classes that therapists may take that focus on treating men as a group. There are many therapists who focus on men and male issues in their treatment and therefore have experience and expertise in this domain.
