Hello, My name is Benny Massey and I am a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor here in Louisville Kentucky. I have a private practice and my focus is helping others help themselves. My objective is clear, bring out the best in you by helping you identify and embrace the Altruistic Self.

My most basic goal is to be authentic, accepting and actively engaged with all of my clients. We'll work to make fundamental connections and collaborate to discover new ways of thinking, feeling and relating to the world. I hope to help facilitate personal growth by creating a welcoming environment and acting as a thoughtful, creative catalyst to self-awareness. I firmly support educating and empowering people as a life tool to overcome adversity, that effective counseling is an active partnership, and that clients who are able to achieve a deeper understanding and awareness also grow closer to their authentic selves. I have worked in the mental health field for over 20 years in a variety of settings including community mental health and state government employee assistance. I've counseled individuals suffering from mood disorders, anxiety, work related stress and trauma. Through my employee assistance work, I have helped those struggling to deal with secondary traumatic stress resulting from repeated exposure to stories about abuse and violence. I'm available to work with adults and adolescents.

Mike’s goal is to provide competent, compassionate care through a collaborative approach to problem solving. Walking with others on their journey is considered a great privilege. The greatest of care is given to providing a safe and supportive environment where individuals may be open and honest about wrestling with issues impeding their progress on the road to wholeness. Mike’s work is collaborative in that he works with you to help you accomplish your goals and tailors his approach to fit your circumstances and stage of life you find yourself in.

"I get it." Those are three words I needed to hear when I met with a counselor the first time. I can promise you that when we meet, if I don't "get it", we won't try to just make it work. Your time, money, and well-being are all too important for us to just wait and see if we can figure out how to make a good and helpful connection.

Currently I am not accepting new clients, but this may change when my schedule has more openings. I believe in helping people discover their hidden resources to cope more effectively with the difficulties of life, including bereavement, complicated grief, mood disturbance, depression, anger, anxiety, behavior problems of youth, and the effects of addiction on family. I enjoy working with adolescents, children, adults, couples, and families. Expressive approaches include spiritually integrated therapy, therapeutic music, play therapy for children, solution focused narrative therapy,and cognitive behavioral therapy.
