We would all enjoy an opportunity to make a wish that would quickly solve our problems and improve our lives. Making a wish and having a dream renews hope for living. I believe that therapy is about renewing hope for your life. At Wishing Tree Counseling, I use a client-centered therapeutic approach that incorporates cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavioral therapy ( DBT), eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR), and canine therapy when working with my clients.

Through evidence-based therapies like dialectical behavior therapy ( DBT) and cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), I can help you develop emotional regulation and distress tolerance skills, manage and reduce depression and anxiety, challenge and redirect unhelpful thought patterns, and improve your relationships with others.
I will encourage you to openly share what's on your heart and mind, without holding back due to fear of judgment. My only request is that you come to our sessions as your authentic self. Therapy is most productive when you have a strong motivation for change. With this motivation, you'll be more likely to put in the necessary work to achieve your therapeutic goals. Building mutual trust is vital in therapy. Through this mutual trust, my aim is to help you become the best version of yourself. "I am not afraid of storms for I am learning how to sail my ship."

I coach them in what I know works using evidence-based interventions such as EMDR, DBT, and CBT.
We all have an internal pressure cooker that holds strong feelings and repressed emotions. This is especially true with today’s adolescents and teenagers. When anxiety, fear, depression, and outside stressors fill their barometer up, they reach a boiling point of eruption that plays out in extreme anger, defiance, substance abuse, addictions to social media and screens, overeating, and other destructive behaviors.

I work with adolescents, adults, children, couples, families, and groups. As a counselor, I believe the most important element in treatment is the relationship between the therapist and the client. Utilizing this relationship we can work together to address many of life's challenges. It is my goal to help clients learn coping skills in a supportive, warm and nonjudgmental environment. My experience includes working with trauma survivors, mood disorders, depression, anxiety, adjustment disorders and family conflict while focusing on relapse prevention.

Dialectical Behavior (DBT) Therapists

Who is DBT for?

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is designed for people who experience extreme emotional suffering because they lack the skills of emotion regulation and distress tolerance. The basic affliction can underlie a wide range of conditions, from borderline and other personality disorders to PTSD and treatment-resistant anxiety and depression. The therapy is helpful to those whose emotional reactivity is so intense it is disruptive to everyday functioning and leads to frequent crises.

Why do people need DBT?

The ability to regulate emotions is a core psychological skill that enables people to function in life and pay attention to the world outside themselves; it is consistently associated with well-being. DBT is designed to help people learn how to manage and regulate their emotions. Originally developed to treat people with borderline personality disorder whose extreme emotional suffering led to self-harming behavior and suicide attempts, the therapy is now applied to other conditions involving emotion dysregulation, particularly when other treatments have failed.

What happens in DBT?

Individuals meet weekly with their therapist to discuss their experiences relating to moods, behavior, and skills. Using checklists they maintain, they review emotional experiences and positive practices they engage in. The diaries help individuals discern what led up to a specific problem encountered, this is followed by discussion of the consequences of their actions. In addition, individuals may meet in class-like small groups to learn skills such as mindfulness, emotion regulation and distress tolerance.

How long does DBT last?

Because it is intended to establish long-lasting behavioral change among those with persistent problems, DBT is designed to last six months to a year. DBT includes both weekly sessions of individual therapy and weekly skills-training sessions conducted in small groups. Studies of DBT have documented improvement within a year of treatment, particularly in controlling self-harmful behavior; nevertheless, individuals may require therapy for several years.
