I focus on trauma initially because what I have found in over 6 years of work as a trauma therapist, is that so much of our present concerns and limitations is rooted in trauma exposure and history. This lends itself to unhealthy patterns of avoidance, hypervigilance/hyperarousal, disturbance in mood and cognitions. and being inundated with intrusions and flashbacks. Many patients that have struggled with years with anxiety and or depressive episodes really have suffered from trauma that has not yet been dealt with. T Fields Trauma Therapy is for you if this describes you! Please also ask about a new service: Medication Management!

I am a Marriage and Family Therapist. I partner with individuals and families in the therapeutic process. As a collaborative therapist I believe that judgments are for courtrooms, and that no one has to do it all alone. My therapeutic approach is relationship based and person-centered. This relationship is a partnership with the purpose of engaging in conversations to reach a deeper understanding and encourage growth and change. Maybe you have a difficult child or you're grieving a loss. Whether your struggle is depression, anxiety, relationship troubles, addictive tendencies, resurfacing childhood trauma, etc., there can be relief.

I use a strength-based approach to help clients enhance the skills they already have and to build upon their support system and encourage they take an active role in their treatment and recovery.
Many people struggle to cope with everyday issues related to depression, anxiety, substance abuse, growing up in dysfunctional homes, trauma/abuse, grief, self-esteem, self-worth, and more. I work with individuals and families using talk therapy to promote optimum mental and emotional health related to these issues. I have experience working with many populations including adolescent and adult clients struggling with substance abuse and mental health. I work with clients to help uncover underlying beliefs about themselves and the world around them to better equip them with the skills to overcome adversity and challenges.

Strength-Based Therapists

How does strength-based therapy work?

During strength-based therapy sessions, the therapist will ask about an individual’s experiences of stress, pain, or trauma with the goal of orienting the client to view themselves as a survivor rather than a victim, and focusing on their strengths rather than on their weaknesses. In framing a client’s personal narrative along these lines, the therapist and client work together to identify existing skills that can be harnessed.

Is strength-based therapy evidence-based?

Strength-based therapy is an evidence-based treatment that has been studied extensively and shown to be effective across domains. The treatment has been found to be particularly effective in helping individuals who are experiencing stress, anxiety, depression, trauma, and other mental health concerns. Strength-based therapy has been used by therapists to help clients for more than 60 years.

How long does strength-based therapy last?

There’s no precise timeline for strength-based therapy. The duration of treatment depends on the individual’s specific needs and goals and the severity of their concerns. Some individuals may find they achieve their therapeutic goals quickly, while others might benefit from ongoing support and guidance in order to continue progressing.

How effective is strength-based therapy?

Clinical research and decades of practice have shown strength-based therapy to be an effective treatment to improve mental health and well-being for many conditions. The treatment can engender a sense of connection and collaboration between the therapist and the individual, fostering a positive therapeutic relationship. For individuals with narcissistic tendencies, strength-based therapy may be less effective, as the focus on the individual’s strengths may undermine the work needed to honestly assess the challenges the individual faces.
