I work with a variety of individuals, particularly adolescents and adults struggling with anxiety, depression, overwhelming stress, and those who have experienced trauma. I value a strengths-based approach and trauma informed care. I've worked in a crisis center for survivors of domestic violence and assault, and I recognize the resiliency and courage in seeking support. I look forward to meeting each person where they’re at and fostering a comfortable environment as we journey towards healing together.

I believe everyone needs someone to talk to, outside of their family and social circle. At some point in our lives, we will deal with situations that are overwhelming where our emotions become too intense, and we are not sure how to handle them. The mind /body connection plays a significant role in symptoms of depression, anxiety, grief, and other conditions such as insomnia and mood. Each session will be geared toward helping you to have more awareness and insight in areas of your life that can affect your overall health and well-being.

I envision therapy much as a road trip-as the client you are in the driver's seat. You determine our destination (goals), our speed, and when we need to stop and review where we've been, the progress we've made, and our strategy going forward. As your therapist, I help to read your maps (identifying core emotional issues, understanding significant life events, and identifying ways you may feel your life is out of balance) and help you to move forward. Together we will work to identify coping mechanisms which no longer are effective and to develop new, effective skills

You have reached a critical juncture in your life and are in search of a therapist who can assist you in navigating the factors that have led you to this point, where seeking help becomes necessary. It is possible that you may perceive this as your sole option, as your support network may have either disappeared, or distanced themselves due to addiction. The prospect of making a change may seem overwhelming, as if the task is insurmountable or too late. However, this is not the case. There is no need to wait any longer for change; you possess the ability to initiate change, even when you feel powerless in the face of addiction.

I approach therapy from a holistic, client-centered, strengths-based approach. I utilize the cognitive behavioral, and acceptance and commitment therapy models to help clients make sense of the past and build new resources to take ownership of the future. In addition, I incorporate mindfulness-based techniques to aid clients in connecting to their internal world and recognizing their thoughts and behaviors without judgment, so they can live a more fulfilling life. I am also trained and informed in positive psychotherapy and solution-focused therapy approaches.

My overall therapy style I would say is casual. I like to work as a team when working with people. I know it is difficult to open up and tell someone all about yourself, especially the things that are troubling you. It takes pure courage and I deeply respect that. I have over 10 years of experience working with Veteran’s from 22 to 82 years of age. I have worked with complex cases such as PTSD, Depression, Grief, Brain Injury and Anxiety. I have also helped individuals with relationship issues, self-care, and self-esteem. I know that we can tackle your problems by setting and reaching your goals together.

People think you have it all together, but have no idea how much you struggle. You feel like an imposter and struggle with your self-esteem. It can feel lonely in that success and you want more authenticity. Let’s change this refrain together! I work with perfectionist, high achieving people with a harsh inner critic that can’t relax, connect and enjoy the life they've worked so hard to build. Also, those navigating life transitions: new careers, relocations, relationships, separations, new diagnosis, and post medical weight loss.

At the core, I approach our work in therapy as a partner and collaborator. I don't profess to know any member better than they know themselves.OCD often puts very challenging material in people’s minds, leading to thoughts that can be embarrassing and shameful. However, I am neither shocked nor judgmental about what comes up for people. I like to remind members that OCD attacks what is most precious to them and that their thoughts are not who they are. At NOCD, my team and I specialize in providing evidence-based treatment for people with OCD. Our understanding of the nuances of OCD enables us to properly diagnose and treat it.

When do you to take your car in for service? Warning lights or routine maintenance guide these decisions to keep our vehicles in optimal working condition. Without the required service, your vehicle will fail to operate. Relationships also stop working when we do not maintain them. Similar to vehicles, we often need additional assistance to get it up and running. Is your relationship due for a tune-up or a complete overhaul? Outside of a thorough assessment I will help individuals and couples navigate through their symptoms and relational stress by not only fostering insight, but encouraging an ability to tackle future obstacles.

Does insurance cover therapy, prescriptions and other behavioral health services?

In general, yes. Laws in the U.S. require insurers to cover essential behavioral health care at the same level as other health care services. Most health plans require a medical diagnosis and treatments that are evidence based and medically essential. This means that life coaching and alternative therapies are not covered, nor is therapy without a diagnosis. Call the number on the back or your insurance card or visit your insurance company's website to review your Summary of Benefits. If you have insurance through your employer, your Human Resources department may also be able to answer questions.

How much does therapy cost with insurance?

The cost of therapy depends on your region, how much training and experience your therapist has, and the type of treatment. The rate for talk therapy generally falls between $100 and $250. For a client seeing an in-network provider, the cost of therapy is often similar to the cost of other health care services. Clients pay co-pays and may need to satisfy a plan’s deductible before benefits kick in.

What is the difference between In-Network and Out-of-Network insurance coverage?

An in-network provider has contracted with an insurer to get paid directly for services, and to accept the insurer’s rate of compensation. Clients are responsible for deductibles and copays. If a therapist is out of network, that means that the client pays the therapist directly for services at the therapist’s regular fee. Out-of-Network providers often give clients a receipt so that they can file for partial reimbursement with their insurance company.

Is it difficult to find an In-Network therapist?

It is not unusual for therapists to limit the number of insurance patients in their practice, so it’s important to check in-network availability when you schedule your first appointment. In regions and times where therapy is in high demand it may take longer to get scheduled with an in-network therapist.

What is the difference between HMO and PPO insurance plans?

HMO health plans only cover in-network services, there is no reimbursement for out-of-network providers. PPO plans often cover both in- and out-of-network services, though the client may pay more for out-of-network services.

What is a Superbill?

A superbill is a receipt for therapy services. It provides all the information required by insurance companies to reimburse you for out-of-network services, including the diagnostic codes for your care, the amount paid, and the dates and duration of care.

Does insurance cover Online therapy?

Many therapists who shifted their practice to online therapy during the pandemic have kept that arrangement. And most insurers continue to cover telehealth services, with a few exceptions. Preventive care (such as an annual depression screening) is often required to be in-person to be covered, and some states require prescribers of controlled substances to see those patients in person.

Does insurance cover Group therapy?

Many insurance plans provide coverage for group therapy provided there is a medical diagnosis for group members, but there are some noteworthy exceptions. For example, Medicare does not always cover group therapy. Group therapy tends to cost less than individual therapy.

Does insurance cover Couples therapy?

Most insurance companies do not cover the cost of couples therapy because there is no medical diagnosis or medically necessary treatment. However, a few plans will offer a limited benefit, so it is still worth checking with your insurance company. Sometimes therapy is covered for a couple when one person has a diagnosis and another family member joins them for joint therapy, but it is considered therapy for the medical condition that includes a family member as a listener or helper, not couples counseling. Without insurance, most clients pay between $100-300 per 60-90 min session for couples therapy. Often clients can find classes or workshops that make it more affordable to work on their relationship. And some employers offer Employee Assistance Plans that help defray the cost of couples therapy.

What is an Employee Assistance Plan (EAP)?

Employee Assistance Plans are purchased by employers for the benefit of their employees. EAPs typically assist employees with referrals and may also provide the first few sessions of therapy free of charge, with the patient's regular health insurance kicking in after those initial sessions. EAP benefits often apply to all types of therapy without the need for a medical diagnosis, making it easier to access couples therapy, therapy for life transitions, and other non-medical counseling. Just as with standard health insurance, clients should always check that a provider accepts their EAP benefits before scheduling.
