I'm Dr. Shelly Peterson, a licensed clinical psychologist with over a decade of experience treating individuals and couples with a wide variety of problems, especially mood, anxiety, trauma, women's issues and coping with chronic pain and medical conditions.

My focus is to help people move through and overcome whatever obstacles are keeping them from experiencing a quality, fulfilling life. I work with a range of individuals and issues with either one person individually, or with a couple or family relationship. I have specialized training and education in treating ADHD in children and adults, in prenatal and postpartum mood and anxiety disorders, substance abuse, and trauma. I utilize a type of therapy called Somatic Experiencing to heal trauma which aims to restore the individual's nervous system to a less reactive state.

Amelia Hess is a Provisionally Licensed Professional Counselor, practicing under licensed Clinical Professional Counselor, Becky Milks. Amelia received her Master of Arts in Counseling with an emphasis in Mental Health from the University of Missouri-Kansas City in 2022 and has been in practice at Awakenings since January of 2023. I am a Licensed School Psychologist and a Licensed Master’s Level Psychologist. Prior to joining the clinical setting, I served as a school psychologist where I supported students’ social, emotional, behavioral, and academic needs. Now in the clinical setting, I use this experience to continue supporting students and their families. I specialize in the assessment and diagnosis of learning disorders (including dyslexia, dysgraphia, & dyscalculia), giftedness, ADHD, and other concerns related to learning. I have extensive experience in the assessment of dyslexia and have presented at the International Dyslexia Association Conference.
