People can benefit from taking the time to reflect and think about their lives in the presence of a neutral therapist. When people encounter a crisis or a difficult situation, it provides an opportunity for the development of self. Change is possible. Therapy provides an avenue to identify and interrupt old ways of thinking, feeling and behaving that are keeping one stuck. It provides an opportunity to "think/reflect" on one's life vs. automatically responding to life's stresses. In this process, a person is often able to see things in a new light and identify new options for dealing with old problems.

The tension in your chest is there again. You can hardly catch your breath. So much to do! Your mind is racing and you feel like you are drowning. Even the smallest things are irritating. You just yelled at your son for spilling a drink, and now feel terrible about it. You missed another assignment at work because you’re so distracted. Confidence is at an all-time low. “I can’t do anything right,” you tell yourself. You know something needs to change, but you’re paralyzed by anxiety. Overthinking every choice until you can’t take any action. It’s gotten to the point where you just want to stay in bed, avoid everyone, and give up.

Practicing in mental health for 41 years; hospitals, group homes, community mental health and private practice. Worked with all populations, with every kind of problem and type of mental disorder. Recent focus on ages23-75, with trauma, ADHD, mood disorders, and relationships, incorporating mindfulness, relaxation and anger management and doing thorough, ongoing assessments. Clients who use substances are asked to abstain while in therapy. Changing the brain requires that. Regular attendance is necessary. Positive skills come with practice and consistency. To maintain the progress, there are avenues for contact during the week.

Do you feel unsure of who you are now? Perhaps you are going through a transition in your life and trying to understand how to get along. Maybe you feel like you aren’t yourself because of intense, persistent feelings of some kind. Maybe your past is dragging you down. Maybe your relationships at home, work, or in your community are not as satisfying as you wish they could be. You’re starting to think, you need an outside perspective; It’s hard to sort through this alone. These thoughts have got you asking, “Will psychotherapy help? Can it really change things? Is it worth it?”

Whether you are seeking therapy for yourself, your child, or your family, beginning therapy can be daunting and challenging. It is my hope to offer you an environment where you can consistently feel safe, supported and accepted; allowing you to make this step with more assurance and ease. I believe one of the most important aspects of therapy is the therapeutic relationship between a therapist and client, and I am passionate about building healthy relationships with children struggling with emotional or behavioral concerns, and their families, to help build resilience, community, and support systems.

Challenges in life are essential to human growth and development, but sometimes these stressful events in life can become overwhelming. Anxiety, depressed moods, anger, irritability, acting out and even addictive and/or compulsive type behaviors are natural responses once internal coping skills have been exhausted. These symptoms can have devastating effects on relationships, work and many other life domains. However, with the assistance of a skilled therapist, these symptoms can be managed and relief is possible.

I treat people who suffer from panic disorders (and many other problems) with cognitive-behavioral therapy. I've studied 6 years of CBT at the Menninger Foundation and I have also studied at the Beck Institute in Philadelphia. Panic is basically a "false alarm". Panic happens when a person's body is producing powerful fight or flight chemicals at the wrong time. The body responds as if there is an emergency when there is no physical threat. The intense changes in heart rate and breathing etc. become subject to catastrophic misinterpretations, like "I'm dying" or "I'm losing control". These scary thoughts produce even more chemicals.

If you're a child between 10 to 18 years old navigating challenges like self-discovery, academic pressures, social dynamics, or familial relationships, seeking understanding and guidance, you're not alone in this journey through adolescence. Many individuals your age face similar hurdles—it's natural to feel overwhelmed or uncertain at times. Alternatively, if you're an adult dealing with concerns such as career transitions, relationship issues, managing stress, or navigating life changes like parenthood or caring for aging parents, know that these challenges are common and seeking support is a positive step.
