My personal experiences with anxiety, grief, and trauma have served to develop my character and lead me towards wanting to make a difference in helping others, becoming a therapist became a natural fit.
Life circumstances can become overwhelming. We have all had times when we need hope and extra support to get back our leverage on life, or to process those difficult life events and find strength again. Maybe you feel you keep revisiting old patterns and want to understand why and make changes, or you have some decisions to make and need an objective professional ear. I can help you through your journey, and give you the strength needed to guide your decisions. I bring a rich and diverse background, which includes experiences and education of over twenty years in health and human relations.

I am currently only accepting new clients for Assessments (ADHD, learning disabilities, Autism, mood disorders, etc). Do you feel stuck, or at an impasse in your current life? Perhaps the use of a substance or a behavior has become a larger piece of your life than you wanted it to. It could be that anxiety or depression have kept you from achieving what you want, or being who you want to be. Maybe you’ve had a change in your life that’s been difficult to handle. Perhaps your child/teen is having difficulty at home or in school. I have experience working with clients of all ages, and tailor my approach to each individual.

I have experience working with adults, children, and teens who have experienced trauma, anxiety, depression, grief, and life transitions.
Do you feel that your thoughts consume your energy? Have you been feeling like no matter what you try somehow those thoughts or feelings still find a way to steal your power? Your power is important and when that power feels dim it can feel dark. There are many different ways this can show up in your life and I acknowledge that shame, guilt, or humiliation has a way to invite itself in. Feeling good takes practice and you don't have to choose to carry all the heaviness alone. It's my passion to be a guiding light in all of my client's journeys and provide a safe space to process their heaviness.

Do you feel overwhelmed by thoughts, emotions, relationships? Does anxiety and depression stop you in your tracks? Does the past seem to always be on your shoulders? Do you have a child who has big emotions and actions that are uncharacteristic? Is the thought of the school year something that gives your child anxiety?

I see each person as a lotus, unfolding gracefully despite life's challenges—much like how it grows beautifully in the mud. We all deal with stress, fears, worries, and tough times that can make life overwhelming or lonely. My goal is to create a safe space where you can learn to navigate these ups and downs and realize that you're not alone on this journey. Growing up in a Vietnamese household in an American society has given me unique insights, inspiring me to become a mental health counselor. I understand the struggle of finding someone relatable to talk to, so I'll focus on creating a trusting and warm relationship between us.

In this time of stress and uncertainty, you don’t need to be judged because you are worried, depressed, or angry.
My therapy & counseling are based on the life experiences and the philosophy of Viktor Frankl. His writings describe the kinds of the situation from which he and his fellow prisoners at Auschwitz were able, on a day-to-day basis, to extract the life-sustaining meaning that was essential to their survival. My therapy has three levels: (1) use mindfulness and relaxation methods to calm the emotional brain down, and (2) use cognitive-behavioral to develop a healthy sense of resiliency. In the 3rd stage, you will learn self-distancing techniques to discover meaningfulness at the moment and find better ways to expand your uniqueness.

Is your young child struggling with big emotions? These can be tantrums that seem impossible to calm, anxiety separating from caregivers, or acting withdrawn and not like themselves? Is your family experiencing big transitions like divorce, moving, or a new sibling? It can be overwhelming and heartbreaking watching our children struggle without being sure how to help them cope.

Anxiety Therapists

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
