I enjoy working with adolescents and adults who just need a little "tune up", need long term assistance, or something in between. Are you experiencing grief from the death of a loved one, abandonment, feeling anxious and out of control, struggling with past or current trauma, want to improve the quality of your relationships, or just want to feel happier? I use evidence based practices tailored to you to help work through your needs. I have a conversational style and like to develop goals together to enhance our work outside of sessions. Therapy can also be fun! Laughter can be heard in my office frequently.

Approximately 90% of my clients identify as transgender or non-binary.
I strive to be the most effective therapist I can be for my clients. For me, being effective means helping clients succeed in learning new skills, developing upon skills they already have, and reaching their goals. In other words, helping my clients get to a place where they don’t need my services anymore. Compassion for others and wanting to help people is what started me on the path to becoming a therapist, but seeing my clients grow stronger and succeed is what makes me want to come to work every day.

If you are neurodivergent (Autistic, ADHD, OCD, etc.), or gender diverse ( transgender, non-binary, gender-queer, etc.), LGBTQIA+, relationship diverse (polyamory, non-monogamus, etc.), people of marginalized communities (non-white, PoC, multicultured, etc.) look no further. I believe in humanity and the human experience, and understand existing in a world that is not open to diversity and accpetance and how this leads to mental health overload. I will honor your unique culture or experience and provide you with ethical therapeutic treatment that meets your needs and culture.

I am married to a transgender woman.
Are you transgender or wondering about your gender identity? You worry about the uncertainty of transitioning. questions. Could I lose my family? Will my friends support me? What about my job? What a relief it would be if others could see you like you see yourself. Some days the stress just feels like too much. You may have questions about what to do next, who to tell, where to get hormone therapy, or how to find your support. Most of all you just want to feel some relief and know that things can get better.

I have a passion for working with the LGBTQ+ community! As a member of the community myself, I know how difficult it can be to feel safe and understood by even a well-intentioned cis/het therapist. That being said, I believe life is best when we are living as our most authentic selves. You are worth building the life you have always wanted to live- and therapy can help! Whether it be learning healthy coping skills, gaining more clarity and ownership of your identity, processing past trauma to be more present, or building healthy relationships- whatever your mental health goals are, I would love to help.

Transgender Therapists
As a gender-diverse individual, why might I want to see a therapist who is also gender diverse?
A trans or gender-diverse client may want to see a therapist who is also trans or gender diverse because the client may feel safer sharing their experiences and more confident that the therapist will understand, validate, and support them. But trans or gender-diverse clients can also benefit from therapy with cisgender therapists; this is a personal decision based on the connection between the client and the therapist, and if that connection is strong, therapy will be successful.
What if I cannot find a therapist who shares my gender identity?
Therapy can still be effective if a therapist does not share a client’s gender identity; a large body of research indicates that the most important factor in successful therapy is the therapeutic alliance. A therapist can also be interviewed for sensitivity and competence on gender identity and expression to ensure they possess appropriate knowledge and skills. Many therapists have excellent training and extensive experience working with gender-diverse clients, and that expertise can be invaluable despite a therapist not sharing the same firsthand experiences.
How can I recognize a good therapist for working with gender-diverse clients?
An experienced therapist should be able to help clients explore their gender identity and expression, alleviate discomfort related to their gender identity, treat mental health challenges and trauma, address existing relationships and communication with family members and loved ones, and determine the next steps pertaining to nonmedical or medical gender-affirming interventions. To recognize a good therapist, clients can ask about these topics and explore their comfort and connection with the clinician.
How might I inquire about a therapist’s experience working with transgender clients?
Clients should feel comfortable asking therapists directly about their experience working with transgender or gender-diverse clientele. For example, clients may ask about the therapist’s training and education with regard to gender identity, how many trans clients they’ve worked with in the past, and what sorts of matters were discussed. You may wish to inquire how a therapist specifically supports the needs of transgender clients or clients questioning their gender identity. A good clinician who is nonetheless not the right fit for you is often happy to make referrals to others based on the concerns you articulate in a preliminary conversation.
