Sometimes we just need someone to talk to. Our lives are or have been subjected to upheaval, stress, trauma, death, illness, and more. We need someone with whom to share our ideas, problems, concerns, and tangled-up emotions. Cindy is a good listener, and has empathy and life experience with many of these issues, and she would love to be there for you during your hard times and life stresses.

Have you ever felt lost in the maze of life's big questions? Like you're searching for something but can't quite grasp it? And then, there are those moments when life feels colorless, leaving us wondering if we've somehow missed out on the joy that others seem to find. In therapy, I strive to create a space where you can navigate these feelings and reconnect with your inner strength and intuition. It's a place to explore those moments of feeling lost or overwhelmed and learn to trust your instincts once again.

Difficulty, challenges, loss, transition....all these circumstances happen to each one of us and sometimes to the point where the weight is too much to bear alone. In those moments, no one should have to walk unaccompanied. Seeking therapy for the most minor or significant reasons is the very first step in working towards a healthier, more fulfilling life.

I believe in trying differently, rather than harder. Parenting children who are neurodivergent (ADHD, FASD, Autism, Developmental Trauma) can be overwhelming, especially if a parent is too! Children can struggle with healthy attachment, viewing every person and situation through a "survival' lens of distrust, often engaging in undesirable behavior to try to establish feeling in control, safe, and connected. They may struggle with processing and verbalizing or emotional regulation. Parents may struggle with regulation and connection in the face of challenging behavior. We all do well when we have the necessary skills to do so!

Therapy doesn’t need to be an awkward experience and my hope is that if given a place to be your authentic self, there is a felt sense of safety in our sessions. I work to create a space where you are comfortable by having a less formal structure to sessions. I have a passion for helping people be their own true self and I do this by offering a judgement free space where you can relax in the comfort of your home or in my office. My approach is validating, supportive, engaging, and real. My age preference for clients is 7 to 35yo. You can learn more about me by reviewing my personal website at www.riena-kain.com

The journey toward and through parenthood does not always go as planned. Some people struggle with infertility and face heartbreaking disappointment each month that goes by with yet another negative pregnancy test. Others experience pregnancy or infant loss and grapple with unbearable grief. For others, a new baby brings with it a sense of overwhelming anxiety or depression. Or, perhaps the struggle you are facing is more vast and relates to the heavy load many women find themselves carrying — managing the never-ending to-do list while trying to be the best mom/partner/friend/worker/household manager/etc. that they can possibly be.

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
