I have extensive experience working with men, women, families, teenagers and young children impacted by trauma, depression, anxiety, addiction, abuse, and hopelessness.
Sometimes in life, we feel stuck, we don't know where to go, or we just feel confused. Therapy is a great place to start when tackling big - or little - life questions! A good working relationship between a client and their therapist is extremely important; due to this, I feel rapport building is one of the key elements in beginning the therapeutic relationship. My passion lies in working with family dynamic changes, daily life struggles, crisis, victims of trauma, and depression/anxiety.

The folks I work with often feel stuck while navigating anxiety, trauma, or self-discovery. They may struggle with self-doubt, fear, or past wounds that keep them from fully embracing who they are. Their goal is to break free from these patterns and develop self-love, clarity, and peace. They want to understand themselves deeply and learn to thrive in a way that feels authentic, but need guidance and support along the way.

Substance Abuse and Chemical Dependency are neurological disorders that negatively effect millions of GOOD people! Rapid advancements in research and technology have provided breakthroughs in our understanding of the brain's role in addiction. The GOOD news is substance abuse and chemical dependency can be effectively treated, but most of us cannot do it alone....we usually need help! I am a recovering person myself and understand the complexities of this disease. I would be privileged to share with you what I have learned about the neuroscience of this disease and assist you on your journey of recovery.

Just a little about me: I’m honored to say I bring more than 25 years of experience as an adult and adolescent therapist. Originally from Overland Park, Kansas, I’m now a retired Army Lieutenant Colonel who served, lived and traveled abroad. From there we will build resources, both internally and externally so that you feel rooted through life’s ebbs and flows. I work with individuals who are suffering from trauma, grief/loss, anxiety and depression, and with individuals/couples who have difficulties with emotional regulation.

You’re not quite sure if counseling or therapy is for you, but you do know something is not quite “right.” You've probably felt this way for a long time. You feel frustrated because whatever this is--call it depression, anxiety, irritability--just isn’t going away. Now you’re feeling defeated because no matter how hard you try, you just can’t seem to fix it. Good news! I don't think you're crazy. I know it feels risky, but I'm ready to take this Venture with you.

Do you feel unsure of who you are now? Perhaps you are going through a transition in your life and trying to understand how to get along. Maybe you feel like you aren’t yourself because of intense, persistent feelings of some kind. Maybe your past is dragging you down. Maybe your relationships at home, work, or in your community are not as satisfying as you wish they could be. You’re starting to think, you need an outside perspective; It’s hard to sort through this alone. These thoughts have got you asking, “Will psychotherapy help? Can it really change things? Is it worth it?”

ADHD, Autism, and other neurodivergent conditions are hot topics these days. Many adults seem to be realizing their brains function a little different than your average bear. I’m here to tell you: that neuro-spiciness you’re experiencing isn’t a problem, it’s a gift. Hi, I’m Chris and I was diagnosed with ADHD in the third grade, back when people had no idea what to do with kids like us. Fast forward to today and I’m a therapist working with other neurodivergent adults trying to figure out how to navigate life’s challenges and thrive in a world that doesn’t always feel like it’s built for us.

Male Therapists
As a man, why might I want to see a male therapist?
There are many reasons a man might wish to work with a male therapist, including a degree of shared identity, which may help client and therapist connect to each other and allow for a more free-flowing discussion of issues that can be deeply personal. Some men may feel more comfortable talking to a male therapist about relationship concerns, the pressures they feel around the roles society and family place on men, career or job challenges, self-esteem, or anger problems. For some men who have not had a male role models in their lives, a good male therapist may be especially helpful.
How can I find out about a therapist’s experience treating men?
Individuals looking for treatment should feel comfortable directly asking a therapist about their history treating men overall and the issues that arise in therapy with men. A good therapist will be happy to discuss such matters as well as their educational background, approach to treatment, and how they think they can aid a prospective client. Prospective clients should also ask what the expectation is for treatment, and what the fee structure is, and whether and which insurance plans are accepted.
Can clients benefit from having a therapist of the same gender?
Therapy is not gender-specific, but some men as well as women feel more comfortable opening up about their experiences and history with a male therapist. An individual may feel that they have to explain less background information and be on the same page more quickly, particularly when discussing gender-specific challenges, in the case of male clients. Some women have prior negative experiences with women that predispose them to prefer working with a male in therapy. That said, a good clinician can transcend most if not all gender concerns. Ultimately, the most important factor in therapy is the connection and trust the client is able to build with the practitioner.
Would a male therapist have specific training in treating men?
Generally, no. There are no certifications for treating men specifically, but there are continuing education classes that therapists may take that focus on treating men as a group. There are many therapists who focus on men and male issues in their treatment and therefore have experience and expertise in this domain.
