Stress affects us all in different ways. Short term counseling with cognitive behavior therapy can many times lead to a reduction in problems. I evaluate persons to better identify issues such as children with ADHD, autism, or intellectual disabilities or adults with PTSD and emotional trauma are a focus of evaluation and treatment. I evaluate persons prior to bariatric surgery, for pre-employment and return to work issues, and several court related or forensic issues. The saying 'if you don't test, it's just a guess' is a keystone of my practice.

Given the chaos that seems to surround us 24/7, I can understand why so many of us are struggling with fear, regret, anger, and resentment. I also believe that even if we feel like we’re stuck repeating the same painful patterns or behaviors, it’s possible to change, it’s possible to resolve past hurt, it’s possible to enjoy life again.

Glad you are taking this first step! I work with patients experiencing depression, anxiety, grief, trauma/PTSD, ADHD, & more. Symptoms are not one size fits all & your therapy experience shouldn't be either. You deserve therapy that's unique to you & we'll work together to achieve that. I also have a passion for providing support to caregivers, having been a caregiver to my mom who had Alzheimer's & being a parent to a child with special needs. I'm intimately familiar with how rewarding, but also challenging, it can be. Whether caring for an aging parent, disabled spouse, or a child, you deserve to have a place of refuge & support!

I have lived experience as someone with ADHD! I get it and understand the challenges! Connection has been found to be the most important component for a child to feel safe, secure and able to fully trust their caregiver.
I believe in trying differently, rather than harder. Parenting children who are neurodivergent (ADHD, FASD, Autism, Developmental Trauma) can be overwhelming, especially if a parent is too! Children can struggle with healthy attachment, viewing every person and situation through a "survival' lens of distrust, often engaging in undesirable behavior to try to establish feeling in control, safe, and connected. They may struggle with processing and verbalizing or emotional regulation. Parents may struggle with regulation and connection in the face of challenging behavior. We all do well when we have the necessary skills to do so!

From early childhood to young adulthood, my profession has taught me about emotional disturbances, learning disabilities, foster care, ADHD, mental health, suicide prevention and awareness, trauma, grief, and so much more.
Hope. Empathy. Compassion. These are words I have come to know and love, lifting me up and getting me through darker days. More importantly, they have helped me help others! Life is incredibly beautiful, breath-taking, and amazing; it is fun and exciting. But life can also be devastating, cruel, and messy. We experience illness, heartbreak, loss, and grief. But along with that comes life, joy, memories, learning, and blessings. Even being a kid can be tough! My mission as a counselor is to meet you (or your child) wherever you are in life, offer empathy, listen, show compassion, and ensure you never lose hope.

When should I seek treatment for ADHD?

You should seek treatment for ADHD if you consistently have difficulty with attention, hyperactivity, or impulsivity that interferes with your daily life. Symptoms of ADHD include the inability to sustain attention during tasks, difficulty organizing tasks and activities, being easily distracted, frequent fidgeting or squirming, and talking or interrupting excessively. If these symptoms interfere with your career, academics, or relationships—for example, consistently failing to complete professional projects on time—you should seek an evaluation for ADHD.

How does treatment for ADHD work?

Effective treatment for ADHD often consists of medication, behavioral therapy, and lifestyle changes. Stimulant medications such as Adderall and Ritalin work by altering levels of neurotransmitters in the brain; higher levels of dopamine and norepinephrine are known to improve attention and focus. Therapy works by helping people with ADHD understand the condition, discuss their areas of difficulty, and develop behavioral strategies to manage their symptoms. In some cases, modifying one’s diet and exercise can also help improve symptoms.

Are there specific medications for ADHD?

Medications to treat ADHD are generally stimulants, the most common are Adderall and Ritalin. There are two categories of stimulants: Amphetamines include Adderall, Dyanavel, Vyvanse, and Dexedrine, and methylphenidates include Ritalin, Concerta, Daytrana, Focalin, Quillichew, Quillivant, and Metadate. Non-stimulants and antidepressants may be used as an alternative if stimulants aren’t effective or viable for a particular patient.

How long does treatment for ADHD take?

It’s tough to give an exact time frame because everyone varies. In terms of medications, stimulants begin to work very soon after you take them, generally within the hour. It may take time to identify the right medication and dosage, but the medication itself is fast-acting. In terms of therapy, it takes time to develop skills and put them into practice, but you will likely see improvements within a few weeks or months.
