I am passionate about working with children ages 2-12 and their parents. I work with kids using play therapy. In the play therapy room, children use toys to communicate what they have trouble saying in words; toys are the child’s words, and play is their language. Given the opportunity, environment, and relationship with a trained play therapist, children can overcome their struggles at home, school, etc. I work with children who are struggling with anxiety, depression, adhd, autism spectrum disorder, oppositional defiant disorder, academic challenges, anger management, mood instabilities, and obsessive compulsive disorder.
I work with the child's parents to help them understand the challenges they are seeing in their child on a daily basis. Parents often feel guilty and blame themselves for their child's mental health issues. As a team with unconditional regard, we can explore things you can do to help your child get through this challenging time.
Often parents will tell me that their children don't play with toys anymore, that their electronic devices are their play. As a society we are driven by technology at young ages. It never ceases to amaze that, once settled in my play room, children very quickly can immerse themselves in playing with toys again.
