As a therapist, I believe in being genuine, respectful and empathetic. For a therapeutic relationship to develop, clients need to feel seen and understood. I strive to help my clients understand their own emotions, cope with difficult feelings, improve their relationships with themselves and the people they care about. Years ago, as a beginning therapist, I was influenced by research showing that the critical therapeutic element in psychotherapy, regardless of the discipline, was the relationship between the therapist and the client. Contemporary research confirms the importance of relationship in fostering therapeutic change.

My areas of specialization are substance abuse recovery, couples counseling, trauma recovery and loss. Understanding how past relationships influence present perception enables clients to increase their psychological flexibility and make values-based choices. I do a lot of work with men who have unresolved issues with their fathers living or dead.

I work exclusively with online therapy. At the start of the Covid epidemic, I was hesitant to try virtual counseling, but quickly found that it feels real and allows for genuine emotional contact. I am happy to offer a no-cost, 15 to 20 minute phone consultation. I am credentialed with several insurance plans.
