I believe individuals enter therapy for a variety of reasons. Some are looking for relief from symptoms that interfere with their lives. Others are seeking to understand themselves on a deeper level, questioning why they continue to engage in self destructive behaviors. Some are seeking out and questioning what is the purpose of their life and struggle to identify what is important. My focus is to create an environment to openly explore life experiences, illuminate strengths and abilities, and promote growth and change.
I have worked for several years with individuals who have chronic mental illnesses and specialize in treating and processing trauma related symptoms that arise from childhood abuse, domestic violence and other experiences, through the utilization of Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing. (EMDR)
I utilize an eclectic approach and also incorporate Dialectical Behavioral Therapy when appropriate. DBT teaches a variety of skills which helps individuals increase their awareness of old ways of thinking and behaving, and learn more effective ways of regulating their emotions, which enhances the quality of their lives and relationships with others.
