My interest is in mid-to-later life adults (40+) with a focus on the ways in which identity evolves as we age. I use a diverse approach comprised of behavioral, cognitive-behavioral, identity theory, and personal narrative modalities to address identity issues in the face of change across the lifespan such as health-related change, environmental or cultural shifts, personal loss, or traumatic events—experiences that can impact the ways in which we perceive ourselves. When the balance of our lives is challenged, the resulting stress can be difficult to manage.
Cultivating a more fluid understanding of who we are from multiple perspectives, including physical, intellectual, emotional, and spiritual, can help foster resilience and a more integrated sense of self. Establishing this deeper sense of self sets the groundwork for how we maintain or adjust when life throws a curveball.
The development of identity is a dynamic and lifelong process. Our work together will not only foster ways to recognize identity imbalances, it will also explore the internal and external resources available to bolster resilience and re-establish a sense of balance to help you feel more grounded with a sense of wellbeing.
