Many people find themselves acting against their own better judgment and best interests without really knowing why. Often, this leads to problems like relationship issues, anxiety, depression, low self-confidence, procrastination, anger, substance abuse and poor self-care. The focus of my practice is to help you know yourself better - your thoughts, feelings and behavior - so you can make choices that will improve the quality of your life. I'll work collaboratively with you to help you discover why you might not be reaching the goals you've set for yourself and together, we'll develop a plan to overcome whatever roadblocks we find.
I've spent twenty-five years counseling people experiencing anxiety, relationship issues, low self-esteem, depression, trauma, chronic medical illness, identity issues, substance abuse and anger - helping those who feel overwhelmed find solutions that work for them.
To address issues like substance use and disordered eating, I use an effective approach called Motivational Interviewing. It involves understanding the costs and benefits of problem behaviors, reasons why changing them is so difficult and realistic planning to make desired changes. If behaviors are life-threatening, I make referrals to treatment programs.
