I have broad experience over twenty five years, in private practice, family agencies and clinical settings. I offer short and long term treatment for problems in living and relating. My approach is relational, with a mind-body, whole person perspective. My practice includes clinical supervision, psychotherapy and psychoanalysis. I often support couples in healing stuck relational dynamics; at any stage of a relationship. Having lived abroad, I work well with expats around questions of identity, acculturation and belonging. I also work with new mothers and those who have lost a parent during early adulthood.

I am an experienced and flexible psychologist/psychoanalyst who has been practicing for over 30 years. I find if my patients give treatment a chance, they usually have good results, that is, they have significantly greater control over their lives and problems (e.g. anxiety, depression, OCD, inter-personal problems, etc.). I accept Insurance, and my fees are adjusted to Income.

I specialize in working with individuals and couples who are struggling with relationship issues, depression, anxiety, and low self-esteem. As these experiences look different for everyone, I focus on getting to know each client beyond the surface - taking the time to understand who they are, where they come from, and what their goals are.

You can't "think" your emotions, which is why sometimes you need more than talk therapy. My clients who have worked with talk therapists have found somatic psychotherapy helped them to deepen their process by developing their sense of embodiment through somatic inquiry. My clients are intelligent, creative, successful professionals who secretly struggle with low self-esteem, relationship problems, anxiety/depression, and somatic dysregulation. Clients have reported feeling more confident, resilient and have learned how to improve their relationship with themselves, while creating better relations with others.

The struggles many of us face today can lead to feelings of loneliness, anxiety, and hopelessness. Even with the various uncontrollable factors that impact each of our lives, we have a tendency to blame ourselves for our emotional experiences. My goal as your therapist is to hold a supportive and compassionate space for you to process and heal your emotional wounds.

I've been working for 32 years helping people develop confidence and the capabilities for personal and profession growth, and for fulfilling relationships. I'm a "Relational" psychoanalytically oriented psychotherapist and psychoanalyst but draw from CBT and solution based therapies as well. I work with individuals and couples from all walks of life and from a wide range of professions. In a safe setting I focus on self-development, communication, and emphasize finding your voice. There isn't a single therapy style for everyone. Together, with your input, I try to create a therapeutic approach suited to your individual needs.

Once you make the decision to seek therapy, the next step is to find the "best fit" therapist for you. My goal as a clinical psychologist is to assist each client on his/her journey to personal success. I've contributed to positive and meaningful changes in my clients lives by guiding them through feelings and alter unhelpful thinking and behavior patterns. Thus, assisting clients to create and maintain the life they desire.

My approach is interactive, empathic, and responsive to each client's needs and difficulties. I see therapy at its best as an authentic encounter between two people, one of whom is a skilled listener who can help the other understand conflicts, alleviate pain, find meaning in his/her unique story, and discover solutions to current problems. I have extensive experience working with individuals and couples, and with late adolescents and young adults.

"Knowing yourself is the beginning of all wisdom." ~Aristotle~ Talking about your struggles with your close friends and family members can be helpful. But, often, additional support and outside perspective also can help you view those issues in a new light and gain deeper understanding of your challenges. My therapeutic work focuses on what each person wants to achieve through therapy. Some strive to reduce anxiety and lift depression. Others seek therapeutic help for non-mental issues and everyday concerns such as relationships, work, low self-esteem, and dissatisfaction in life.

You’re here because you're sick of being at war with your body, but you’re stuck. For years you believed shrinking your body was the only way to access the mental relief you crave and while you know by now that "diets don't work", you can't figure out how to just eat and live inside your body in peace. Maybe you've been diagnosed with an eating disorder, or tried to seek help in the past, but were made to feel that you are not "sick enough" to "meet criteria" or access the care you need. Regardless, you know you want to live a more authentic, more liberated life...and you're ready to try a new approach.

FAQs - About Therapy and Counseling

How can I find a therapist in New York?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
