My practice focuses on individual therapy with adults and young adults/late teens. I have a particular interest in working with clients who are struggling with the adjustment to life transitions (e.g. new baby, marriage, breakups, loss of loved one, moves, job/school changes, health issues). I am interested in the adjustment to parenthood. In addition, I enjoy working with individuals who struggle with anxiety, depression, self-esteem issues, identity issues (professional or otherwise), family of origin issues and relationship concerns.
While I practice as a generalist, I have a sub-specialty in young adult mental health. My experience working in several university counseling centers - including those at American University, Georgetown University, and University of Maryland - has given me a good understanding of issues facing young adults today.
My approach is warm and collaborative, and I foster an accepting, nonjudgmental environment. I assist clients in gaining insight into the origins of their difficulties and help them to break old, self-defeating behavior patterns and cope with troubling emotions more effectively.
