My name is Dr. Joseph Sands, and I am a Licensed Psychologist based in Los Angeles, California. I work with adolescents and adults with the following difficulties: sadness/depression, mood swings, anxiety (panic attacks), social phobias, poor social skills, OCD, impulsivity, anger problems, ADHD, autism, and relationship issues. I like to use a collaborative approach with my clients to help them best strategize to overcome the obstacles and meet their therapeutic goals. The clients I work with are currently seen in an outpatient setting and range from adolescents to middle-aged adults, with a variety of different challenges.
My approach to therapy varies by each client’s needs. I most frequently use Client Centered Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Reality Therapy, and Mindfulness. When it comes to my approach, I like to cater to not only my client’s stressors but also what would best match their personality, as this can help them get the best out of therapy.
When it comes to my communication style, I like to use a fair balance between casual and directive. My goal is to create a safe, empathetic, and nonjudgmental therapeutic environment because I feel it is the best way to help clients heal and manage their current stressors.
