We are all diverse, complicated, human beings. We experience life and all that comes with it. Sometimes it’s fantastical and magical, sometimes it’s challenging and painful. I think sharing happier, or more positive moments in life is easier than expressing something difficult or simply asking for help when you’re struggling. That’s because it means being vulnerable and vulnerability is often scary and uncomfortable. However, when you're uncomfortable, change tends to happen and it’s usually positive. I won't stop the uncomfortable, but I'll certainly support you through it. Then hopefully vulnerability won’t be so scary anymore.
I'm fond of utilizing psychodynamic theory; or looking into one's past and seeing how it's affected their present. Essentially, I like to help folks understand where some of the feelings they’re struggling with come from. I use a lot of mindful self compassion in my work as well. Feeling compassion for yourself after experiencing trauma is vital to healing.
Getting to know you and establishing a connection is important to me. In our first meeting, we’ll aim to discuss your therapeutic goals and simply get to know each other. I know from my own experience that having a good relationship with your therapist makes therapy much easier and more rewarding.
