My ideal client has a life-long habit of being a ruthless self critic - unkind and even cruel to self. Self-compassion is the extending of kindness, care, warmth, and understanding (instead of beratement and criticism) toward yourself when faced with shortcomings, inadequacies, or failures. Self-compassion is the positive care and nurturing you offer yourself when you make mistakes, embarrass yourself, or come up short of a goal you were hoping to achieve. Having self-compassion means honoring and accepting your own essential humanity. Self-compassion is having grace for oneself. Sound like an impossibly high bar? It's not!
I will partner with you in navigating the tumultuous waters of chronic self abnegation. We will gently discover the origins of unhelpful self messaging which at one point was likely an adaptive strategy for emotional survival. I will assist you in moving from habitual and reflexive negative self hammering, toward the kindness you may not think you deserve.
Our work will begin by making space for what you've been telling yourself all these years. We'll place in the light of day the shame, blame, guilt, etc., that, hidden in the shadows, has much more power than when illuminated. This spaciousness along with some unexpected skill building has the potential to liberate. ALL of you is welcome here.
