Sexual addiction (SA) is a hidden addiction. It is a global problem, under-reported, and largely untreated. SA harms relationships, creates relational trauma for partners, and damages trust and intimacy in relationships. Addicts often engage in secrecy and feel shame and guilt about their behavior. Partners often feel betrayed and traumatized by the addicts behavior. Intimacy issues are often an underlying concern for both individuals and for couples. Like other addictions, SA can get progressively worse over the years. If untreated, SA can lead to relationship loss, divorce, job loss. financial problems, and legal problems.
I specialize in treating sex and porn addiction. I work with individuals and couples who are facing this issue. I use an addiction treatment model, an attachment model, and cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) to help addicts in recovery. I use an early couples recovery empathy model (ERCEM) to help couples heal their relationship.
I understand the pain and suffering experienced by both the addict and the betrayed partner. Treatment often involves individual therapy, couples therapy, group therapy, and attending 12-step meetings. Online resources are a valuable tool in treatment. For relationships, healing is a couples journey. With proper treatment, there is hope in recovery.
