Hi, I'm John Checkett (pronounced as in, Check It Out!). I'm on your side. You can tell me anything! My unique cluster of social science degrees includes Social Work, Communication Arts, and Pastoral Psychology, as well as my being the first man in history to earn a master’s degree in Women’s Studies in Florida. I can help you have better relationships, improve your communication skills, and to learn how to protect yourself against anxiety. I also specialize in problems related to men's issues, women's issues, and relationship problems/communication problems. I can give you the mental tools to keep you healthy long after therapy.
I've got a wide knowledge base, favoring an eclectic approach to therapy. This allows me to customize sessions to fit each person individually. I draw heavily on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, along with ideas from Narrative therapy, Gestalt and Jungian therapy. Also, Brief Therapy, based on the idea that most therapeutic progress occurs within 4 to 6 weeks.
Sessions with me are easy: we just have a conversation, and you tell me about recent events in your life and what's on your mind. I typically provide information relating to your reported problem and help you understand how you can improve the situation. Usually some humor is involved. Most people report feeling better at the end of the session. Let me help.
